The Ultimate Husband (Darryl and Lily Lyndon) novel Chapter 5276

Just as the words rang through the air, Ambrose shook his head instantly. "Don't think that way. How is this your fault? Look after the child. I'll handle this."

As he spoke, he patted Heather's shoulder comfortingly.

Heather called out in response before glancing at Cody. "Brother Ambrose, he was just acting on his orders. Don't fault him."

"I know."

Ambrose nodded, but his expression was still nothing but ashen.

The next second, Ambrose looked at Cody as he said impatiently, "Come with me."

As he spoke, he left the room. After all, it was Heather's room, and it was hardly appropriate for Cody to be here.

Cody scrambled to get up, following behind Ambrose in terror.

Once outside, Ambrose took a deep breath as he turned to look at Cody. "Since Heather spoke up for you, I won't be hard on you for what happened tonight."

As he spoke, Ambrose struggled to hold back his anger. He knew well and clear that Veron was behind what had happened tonight, and Cody was not to be blamed in the slightest despite the fury in his chest.

Sensing Ambrose's rage, Cody gulped as he nodded vigorously.

"Thank you, Sect Master Ambrose. Thank you for your kindness, Sect Master Ambrose."

Just then, Cody's palms were practically drenched in sweat.

It was important to note that standing before Cody was the Sect Master of the Elysium Gate, one of the most powerful people in the Nine Continents, capable of killing him with a snap of his fingers.

Who would not be terrified?

At the same time, Cody was also secretly relieved.

Thank heavens for his wits for thinking of a reason that would not be suspected, or he would have become a corpse.

"Don't thank me so quickly."

Ambrose huffed sharply, emphasizing each word.

"You are to return to tell Veron that there is nothing between us and that it was Heather speaking up for you earlier that saved your life. The Lange family and the Elysium Gate have an alliance, so I'm not going to make a big deal out of it, but if it happens a second time, don't fault me for being heartless.

"That's all. Get out of here."

"That's your business. Not mine," Ambrose spat coldly.

"Yes!"

Cody scrambled to nod with an expression of pure terror on his face. "It's all my fault. I shouldn't have broken into Heather's room or plotted to kidnap your baby, but…"

Cody's gaze flashed, an idea coming into his mind. "If all I have to bring back to my High Lady is your message to her, she'll never let it go."

Ambrose's expression was positively ice-cold as the words rang through the air. "What are you trying to say?"

Cody wiped the sweat beading on his forehead, saying in a cautious tone, "I mean… Your words aren't going to be believable enough for my High Lady, Sect Master Ambrose. How about this? You give me something you carry with you all the time, and I'll bring it back to my High Lady, so she'll let this go once and for all."

As he spoke, Cody observed Ambrose's reaction.

All at once, Ambrose fell silent as he pondered the offer.

Cody made sense. Veron was stubborn and ruthless, and she would never be satisfied with a mere message from Ambrose. She would surely come in a matter of days to cause a ruckus.

The only way to solve it once and for all was to make her let go of the entire thing altogether.
