The Ultimate Husband (Darryl and Lily Lyndon) novel Chapter 5277

At the thought, Ambrose looked at Cody. "Fine, what do you want from me?"

Whew!

Cody heaved a deep breath and spoke in a highly cautious tone.

"There's an ancient belief that equates cutting one's hair to cutting ties with someone. Why don't you give me a few strands of your hair, Sect Master Ambrose, and I'll tell my High Lady that you've cut her off for good?

"My High Lady will see your hair and give up for sure. She'll never give you any more trouble after this."

As he spoke, Cody had on a serious expression as his chest thudded hopefully.

Indeed, his ultimate goal was to obtain Ambrose's hair and nothing else. Knowing Veron's temper, she would surely kick him out if he did not finish what he was ordered to do.

At the suggestion, Ambrose hesitated briefly. Following that, he took out a small dagger and sliced off a lock of his hair before handing it to Cody.

"Well… That seems like a good idea. Here, take the hair and get out of here."

All Ambrose wanted then was to have nothing to do with Veron, and he did not realize that he had fallen into Cody's trap.

Haha…

As Ambrose did not seem to suspect anything, Cody could hardly contain his glee. However, he made a point not to show any of it, taking her hair and bowing deeply.

"Thank you so much, Sect Master Ambrose. I'll be sure to have a good talk with my High Lady when I return."

"Go, go!"

Ambrose waved a hand impatiently.

Cody did not say anything further, putting the hair away and leaving gleefully.

Creak…

Just as Cody left, Heather pushed the door open and came out holding the baby. She stared at the retreating Cody, saying in an unreadable tone, "Ambrose, I think that Lange girl really likes you. A woman would only stoop so low if she was deep in the throes of passion. I think you should just talk to her…

"Don't you think it was a little cold of you to cut her off, giving Cody the hair and all?"

Heather was a kind person, and she felt as if it was rather heartless of Ambrose to do such a thing.

Just then, Cody stood in front of the door, hesitating briefly before he knocked.

Thump thump!

The knock was not loud, but it pierced through the silent night.

Quickly enough, Veron was woken up by the noise and said in a deeply annoyed tone, "Who is it, knocking so late in the night?"

Cody took a deep breath, saying carefully outside the door, "It's me, High Lady."

"You…"

Veron flared up in irritation at Cody's voice. "How are you back so soon? Did you do everything I asked you to?"

Cody's expression was nothing but pained. "High Lady, I was lucky enough to bring back something from Ambrose and the child."

At the words, Veron could hardly contain her joy as she hurried to open the door.

"Really?"
