The two birds and Darryl weaved through the air, moving so quickly one could hardly catch sight of them.
The sight made Monna and the ministers hold their breath, all of them praying for Darryl silently.
Eventually, ten minutes passed by.
Darryl and the two golden birds had battled fiercely in mid-air for countless rounds, and yet there was still no upper hand.
All at once, Darryl was unspeakably panicked. He could clearly sense that the two golden birds before him did not only have razor-sharp talons— their defense was pretty powerful as well.
There were many times when a blow that Darryl had cast did not do much damage to the birds. This was because their strong, bulletproof feathers had blocked off a large part of the blow.
On top of that, Darryl had also noticed that every time the birds exploded with flames, the bloody sun above them would grow all the more blinding.
Realizing this, Darryl could not help but frown and ponder to himself.
Could it be… that the golden birds before him had something to do with the bloody sun?
Darryl took another look at the three legs on the birds, and a thought struck him.
Three-legged Golden Birds?
So these strange beasts were the Three-legged Golden Birds as recorded in history…
Realizing this, Darryl flashed a smile as all the worry he had felt melted away.
At the same time, he kicked himself internally. How had he not realized such a prominent feature?
He had once heard about many past happenings when he had been learning about medicine from the Divine Farmer, and one of them was about Emperor Houyi shooting down the suns.
Darryl remembered clearly that the Divine Farmer had especially mentioned the magical birds that guarded the suns. This was because they had three legs and a coat of shiny golden feathers, hence earning them their name. It was just that ever since Emperor Houyi had shot the suns down, the nine golden birds that he had been supposed to face up against after that were nowhere to be found.
Sure enough, the two golden birds began to panic at the sight of the sun being covered, their crows sounding through the air.
Darryl grew confident at the sight, calling out, "That's enough now. Time to surrender."
As the words rang through the air, Darryl raised his arm. A ray of golden light shot out that ripped through the heavens, charging toward the two golden birds.
The golden light had been condensed from Darryl's divine energy and was impossibly powerful. It burst through the air, practically tearing the atmosphere in half.
The golden birds did not dare to fight against this, of course. They flapped their wings, soaring off into the distance.
Yet they had not gotten very far before the golden light hit them square. The birds let out an anguished howl, blood spraying the air as they thudded heavily onto the ground.
Both Monna and the surrounding ministers could not help but whoop and cheer at the sight.
Darryl smiled too, landing on the ground before striding toward the two golden birds. "I don't know why you grew feral, but killing everyone in your way with no mercy is absolutely unforgivable."
