*Kat’s POV
“What??” I was shocked to hear they were taking down the investigation. That can’t be true. They can’t do that when they have not found any clues about their death.
“Yeah it’s true. They called me in the afternoon telling they are dropping the case since no clues are found to prove that accident was intentional.”
“But they have done nothing so far to prove it to be right. How can they drop the case all of a sudden? It’s been what 3 weeks after their death?”
“No, one month. Its two weeks now after filing the case.” I looked at her in disbelief. She knows it more accurately than me. She is more invested in their death than me? Maybe it might be because I was trying to forget about it? I shook my head from those questions. That is not the issue now.
“You got to tell Ryder about the laptop.” Mandy says to which I look at her. “Or else along with the case they might just take the evidences away too which includes the laptop.”
There seriously is some more to this than I count on. This is not the first time Mandy has mentioned about asking Ryder to get the laptop.
“It-”
“Don’t say that same excuse of “it being too soon” anymore. We need that lap to know more about Uncle Damien’s and Aunt Nina’s death.”
“I don’t get it what is in it for you. They are my parents I above anyone else want to know what is the truth behind their death. Why are you so invested it?” I asked getting irritated by the fact Mandy was ordering me around. I never liked being told what to do.
As if realising something Mandy’s expression changed suddenly and apologised for her behaviour.
“It’s just my dad and yours were very close and loosing them has affected my parents so much. So their constant reminder about the case got me worked up. I never wanted to tell you what to do. It’s just we are loosing the time and now they are dropping the case. I felt after you got back together with Ryder you forgot about everything else. And that hurts me knowing my parents are worked up over this while you were-”
“Okay you have no right to say that. You out of everyone knows how much both Ryder and my parents means to me. You are right I do forget everything when I am in his presence. Or it might be that I am trying to forget the fact that my parents are longer with me. Their constant nagging, my dad’s sarcastic comments and my mom’s lame jokes trying to cheer me up whenever I fight with Ryder for stupid reasons. I miss all that. Knowing that I would never hear their words of wisdom, my dad’s teachings hurts me so much that it is eating me from inside.”
Mandy wiped my face making me realise that I had been crying. That realisation broke something in me making me a sobbing mess. She pulled me to her and tightened her hold on me. I had been escaping from this pain. Never did I realise that my escaping will reduce the time left for finding out the truth.
Once I was all out of tears, I decided it was time to tell Ryder about the laptop.
“You are right I should tell Ry about the lap.”
“Tell me what?” We gasped hearing a very familiar deep voice behind me. This is the second time today Ry is making his surprise appearances.
He nodded at Mandy when she greeted him. It was when he turned his face towards me that his face expression changed from smiling to concerned. He sat down on the couch next to me making me turn to him completely. He cupped my face wiping the tears are threatening to make an entry.
“Baby what happened? What happened to make this beautiful face of yours all ugly?” He said with a playful concern now though I could see that he was worried.
“Hey!!” I said offended but soon a smile came to my face. I could never stay angry at him for a whole day if he was this playful.
“There is my beautiful kitty making an appearance. Now tell me what happened?” This time the question was directed to Amanda after pulling me into a very tight hug. Breathing in his earthy scent of his cologne mixed with my lavender body wash made my very tensed mind calm down.
“I think it is Kat’s tale to be told. I will give you to some space. Coffee or tea?” Mandy asked preparing to leave the living room to us.
“Coffee. Thanks.” He said. I felt his thanks was meant not only for coffee but something else. I looked at Mandy to confirm what my subconscious screamed at me. She smiled at me confirming what my subconscious said was true. It was for taking care of me. I blushed at that hiding my face in his chest. Gosh can he be any sweeter?
“Now I believe that is your cue to tell me what that tale is?” He asked leaning back on the arm of the couch bringing me down to lay on him. I got in between in his legs after he leaned back bringing his feet on the couch. I wrapped my arms around his waist inside his coat. He wrapped his arms around me.
“So you know about my parents accident.” I paused to hear his response to know he was attentive to what I was about to ask for.
He hummed for me to continue while playing with my hair.
“Yeah so the cops got my dad’s laptop on the scene.”
“But that laptop is not your dad’s.” He said while still playing with my hair.
“How did you know about the laptop?” I asked pushing up to see his face. He pulled me back down on him.
“After knowing about the accident I had hired a private detective to investigate about it. From him I got to know you got a letter from your dad but since you destroyed the letter I couldn’t know what it exactly was. Then I got to know about the evidences the cops got from the scene. And hence coming to know about the laptop.”
“I honestly don’t know to be happy to know that you were worried about me though you acted as if you never cared or angry that you stalked me.” I said looking at him. I brought my hands on his chest and interlocked my fingers and laid my chin on it to look at him comfortably.
He chuckled. The bastard has the nerve to laugh.
“Be overjoyed that we are back together and that we can now get your dad’s laptop” He said tightened his hold around me making me take off my hands from his chest and wrap it around him.
“Okay, but how did you know that laptop was not dad’s actual one?”
Ry leaned down to my ears and said in a low voice, “I got a letter from your dad too.”
“I too got one.” Came Mandy’s voice from the door.
“Were you eavesdropping into our conversation?” asked Ry annoyed.
“I was about to enter the living room that was when I heard about the letter. See coffee.” Mandy handed our coffees to us. Yum her coffee are the best. Actually second best first being starbucks. Yummy.
~You are missing out what is happening outside your coffee world.~
That is when I felt the weird tension in the air. Ry was annoyed for some odd reason. Didn’t he want her to know about the letter?
~Why?~
I don’t know. Remember you are in my head if you don’t know then I too will not know that.
~Unlike you I can’t voice out my questions. So go ask. I don’t feel like Ry likes Mandy much. To be honest I feel bit weird too. As if she is hiding something~
As if I don’t know that. Like I mentioned in the past if she wants me to know she will tell me. It may not be related to me that might be why she is not telling me what she is hiding from me. I am giving her the benefit of the doubt.
~Aren’t you being too sweet to people?~
Yeah to the ones that are very close to me.
“Kat? Are we interrupting your conversation with yourself?” Ry asked teasing me.
“What?” I asked confused of what is happening. I must have been zoned out for quite a time.
“I said sit up I don’t need PDA in this house.” Mandy said.
“Oh” I sat up straight but still had Ry’s one arm around my waist.
“Wait you both got letters from dad? Why didn’t you guys tell me that before?” I asked.
