Their End, My Beginning novel Chapter 47

Recap- ( I will be continuing from the recap of chap 26 so if you want to know from the starting refer to that chap.)

After Kat’s talk with Raven she asked Ryder why he hired her to which she came to know that it was Ryder’s parents who helped 18-year-old Raven to hire a lawyer, which happened to be Martha’s , his receptionist’s father. His parents were close to Mr. Simon who is Raven’s biological father. Ryder also tells her about her stepfather not being dead when she tried to kill him but was really dead after Ry killed him who lived in a fake identity as Keith Gardener, whose death came out as suicide in the news saving Ry out of the trouble. After their talk Ryder joined Kat and his employees in the canteen where Kat comes to know Alex, with whom she had coffee before reconciling with Ryder, was ex of Martha who became a douchebag to follow new Ryder’s path. After their work both Ryder and Kat goes to her bestfriend Amanda’s (and hers) apartment where Amanda tells Kat about the case being dropped off and that the cops told them to take the laptop or else it will be destroyed. She also comes to know that her father (Damien) has written letters to both Nicholas (Amanda’s father and Damien’s bestfriend) and Ryder telling them to take care of Kat. Deciding it was time to meet her parents she leaves with Ryder to graveyard while Amanda goes to the police station. After her talk with her parents she leaves graveyard with Ryder after he promises to her parents that he will take care of her. Now read the story to know more.

*Kat’s POV

“Sir we have arrived.” says Mark.

“Thanks Mark.” Ryder says and got off the car. Soon after he stepped out, my side of the door was opened by Mark. A very surprised Mark.

“You look surprised.” I commented while getting out of the car after thanking him. My comment on his facial expression made him come back to earth and before I knew it he was back to his I-am-just-an-employee-of-a-cold-CEO expression. I mean just blank.

“Yes Maam.” He replies.

“I take it that it’s the first time you are hearing him using the golden words.” I said while facing him to see he had a small smile which was soon gone after looking behind me. Before I turned to see the person behind me I saw a small-not-visible-if-you-don’t-concentrate nod from him.

“Thanks Mark.” Ryder scoffs at Mark for making me see that once there lived a ruthless cold Ryder. I giggled after hearing Mark apologizing.

Ryder and I walked towards the police station with his hand on my back. I saw Mandy standing few feet away from us. Before I could reach her. Ryder stopped walking making me turn towards him.

“Okay for the last time are you sure you didn’t even receive any calls or even missed calls from the cops informing you about dropping the case?” He asks for the thousandth time. Okay that was exaggerating but he asked me that question at least 10 times on the way here.

“Yes I didn’t receive anything from them. Why are you asking me that? Where they supposed to call me? Isnt Mandy knowing it enough?” I asked so many question at one breath.

He runs his hand through his hair and exhales heavily. “Yes, you were the one supposed to get the call not Amanda.”

“Why?”

“Because normally the procedure is that the person who gave the case must be informed about the case and not the one related to that person.”

“Even so I wouldn’t get the call.”

“Why?”

“Because I wasn’t the one who gave the case. It was uncle Nat who gave the case not me. I wasn’t even on earth at that time to be doing something sane.” I said thinking back to the time I felt desperate to be with my parents and trying to gather the courage to just do it. But couldn’t because I was too scared to hurt myself.

“So that must be why you didn’t get the call. Then, call Nathaniel to see if he got any call. So, we can make sure that this news is not fake.”

“Wait are you trying to say that Mandy is lying? For what?”

“Look I don’t want to argue with you right now. I told you I feel something is off with her. Just check with him will you.”

“Fine I will check with him. But if this is true then you must atleast try to be nice with her. She is my sister.”

“From another mother.” He muttered under his breath trying to not let me hear it. Or atleast pretending to not let me hear it. Shaking my head, I went to dialling Uncle Nat’s number. Why can’t boys understand that sisterhood can be established without being related by blood.

“Hello.” A deep voice called me out from my thoughts.
