"I can only step in when I am asked." She answered gently, looking between us with questions of her own swimming behind her pearly irises.
"Asked? By whom?" Kane's brows furrowed as an uneasy silence fell over the group. I looked around, sensing the unspoken tension, wondering which one of my family had reached out to the moon goddess. Not that I wasn't grateful for the save, but I needed to understand who was indeed in her pocket and who I could trust.
"You can trust everyone in this room." She replied aloud, making me wince a little as I remembered she could dog inside my head just as freely as Astaroth could.
"Stay out of my head." I barked, irritated yet again, but as Kane tapped my ass gently, I sighed and added, "Please."
Finally, Knox cleared his throat as if sensing my growing tension.
"It was me," he admitted quietly, not meeting anyone's gaze. Closing my eyes, I felt my jaw tighten as astonishment washed over me.
"You asked for her help?" I questioned, searching his face, feeling blindsided by this revelation.
"When things started getting out of hand, I didn't know what else to do." He nodded. "I prayed-hoped-that she might hear me."
"And you were not the only one who sought my aid." Selene smiled kindly at him. I glanced between them, confusion knitting my brow.
"Wait, who else?" Kane asked, his tone laced with a hint of the betrayal I, too, felt. Chase and Liam exchanged a brief look before stepping forward.
"We did," Chase confessed. "After everything that's happened, we realised we couldn't handle it alone."
"Why didn't you fill me in at the time?" I asked, a mix of hurt and bewilderment seeping into my voice.
"We were all a little busy, sis. We didn't want to worry you." Liam offered an apologetic smile.
