Chapter 155 A Thorough Health Check
Camila and Hazel went to the hospital.
Accompanied by Hazel, Camila underwent a thorough medical examination from head to toe.
She handed the results to the doctor, an experienced physician with over thirty years in the field. His face grew increasingly grim, and the lines on his forehead deepened as he reviewed the findings.
After what felt like an eternity, Camila stepped out of the consultation room. Her eyes were vacant, lifeless, and her entire being seemed drained of vitality, as though her soul had been stripped away.
The doctor’s words still echoed in her mind, each one cutting into her heart like a blade.
“You’re so young… How did your body end up in such a state?” he had said. “Years of malnutrition, severe anemia, and lingering injuries have left your body barely holding on.”
“And you’re missing a kidney. That loss has disrupted your body’s balance, leading to weakened organ functions and systemic decline,” he added.
Hazel, her voice trembling with worry, asked, “Doctor, if we replace the missing kidney and take good care of her, will she recover?”
The doctor shook his head with a heavy sigh. “This isn’t something that can be fixed with good care. The long–term deficiencies and accumulated injuries have caused irreversible damage to multiple organs.
“And her ears… If it were just a ruptured eardrum, it could be repaired. But the nerve damage is permanent. Even a cochlear implant won’t help. Prolonged hearing loss might also affect her ability to speak.
“As for her leg, even if we were to break and reset it, it would never be the same. At best, she might walk without a limp, but running or moving quickly would be impossible.
The doctor spoke at length, and every word felt like a hammer blow to Camila’s spirit.
She understood now–just as cooked meat can never return to its raw state, her broken body could never be restored to what it once was, no matter how much treatment she received.
She realized she could never live like a normal woman–marrying, having children, or even experiencing the intimacy of a relationship was now beyond her reach.
“Doctor, with my current condition, how much longer do I have?” she asked, her voice heavy with the weight of the question she dreaded but had to confront.
“If you take good care of yourself, you might have four or five years,” the doctor replied.
That meant she might not even live to see thirty.
Camila stumbled forward in a daze, her body feeling as though it carried the weight of a mountain. Even breathing sent sharp, searing pain through her chest.
Hazel stayed close to Camila, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. “Ms. Jackson, please don’t lose hope. Medicine is so advanced nowadays. If hospitals in Sancho can’t help, we’ll find another hospital.”
Camila limped forward without saying a word. It was only then that Hazel remembered–Camila couldn’t hear her anymore. Tears spilled over uncontrollably.
She had no idea when Camila had lost her hearing. If she hadn’t gone with her for the check–up today, she wouldn’t have realized it at all.
Hazel stared at Camila’s frail and slender back, instinctively covering her mouth to suppress her sobs. But the tears wouldn‘ ‘t stop; they poured down like a flood.
Those who had mistreated Camila finally got what they deserved, but now, the satisfaction of vengeance felt meaningless. No matter how much she retaliated, Camila wouldn’t be healthy again.
Hazel was torn between anger and sorrow, consumed by a deep sense of helplessness. She wanted to help Camila, but there was nothing she could do.
“Camila?” A deep male voice suddenly broke the silence.
Hazel quickly wiped her tears and turned to look, only to see William, dressed in a hospital gown, his face pale and drawn, blocking Camila’s path.

William was at the hospital because he had leans his core.
After returning home, he drowned himself in alcohol, drinking recklessly until he succumbed to alcohol poisoning. Enoch and Abigail had rushed him to the hospital in the dead of night.
He never expected to run into Camila here. Reaching out, he grabbed her frail shoulders, his eyes bloodshot as he asked, ”

Camila, are you here to see me?”
Camila’s vacant eyes slowly focused, and when she recognized him, her face instantly twisted with undisguised disgust.
“I loathe you with every fiber of my being, she said nonchalantly.
William’s face turned ashen, his lips trembling. “Do you hate me that much?”

“Yes, I hate you. I wish you were dead! Camila suddenly shouted, her voice trembling with fury.
if it weren’t for those people, she wouldn’t have ended up in this crippled state. Her heart felt as though it had been torn apart, bleeding profusely.
Had she not been imprisoned back then, she could have attended Wasmore University. Five years later, she would have graduated and secured a respectable job.
By then, meeting Giovani wouldn’t have made her feel so small and unworthy.
She had finally fallen for someone, but she wasn’t good enough for him, nor could she ever be with him for the long haul. Tears streamed down Camila’s face, each drop carrying the weight of her shattered dreams.
She didn’t know why her life had to be so miserable. She even wished she had never met Giovani. That way, she wouldn’t have to endure the heartbreak of not being able to be with him.
Even after carrying out her revenge, her life remained unbearably painful.
“William, don’t ever show up in front of me again. You make me sick, Camila said.
William felt as though he’d been stabbed. The words “You make me sick” echoed in his mind like a curse, repeating endlessly.
Suddenly, he pulled Camila into his arms, as if he wanted to merge her into his very being. “Camila, please, I beg you–don’t treat me like this,”
“I really love you. You can hit me, curse me, anything you want. Just give me one last chance, I beg you,” he continued. Camila struggled to push him away, but the harder she pushed, the tighter he held on.
“Camila, you got your revenge yesterday. I’ve paid my debt to you,” William said. “Let’s start over. I swear I’ll spend every moment of my life making it up to you. Please, believe me.”
