Chapter 186
Camila’s eyes shot upward, her pupils shaking in fear as she saw a torrent of mud and debris cascading down the mountainside.
Before her mind could catch up, her body moved instinctively. She leapt off Giovani’s back, summoning every ounce of strength to shove him out of
harm’s way.
She thought bitterly, ‘My life doesn’t matter–I’m already broken, anyway. Whether I live another day or die right now, it’s all the same.
‘Giovani has already sacrificed so much for me. He even came to this village for me. If he lost his life now, I wouldn’t find peace even in death.
Caught off guard, Giovani stumbled forward. When he caught himself and spun around, he saw Camila standing a short distance away, her face wearing a warm yet sorrowful smile.
Camila’s eyes stayed on him, like she had a million things to say. But all she could get out was, “Mr. Campbell, I hope your life is full of peace, love, and joy.”
The torrential rain and the thunderous rumble of the landslide drowned her voice, leaving her words lost in the chaos.
Giovani’s eyes widened in panic. “Camila!” he roared, his voice cracking as he lunged toward her, heedless of the danger.
Just as the mudslide threatened to engulf Camila, Giovani threw himself forward, shielding her with his body.
The falling debris slammed into his back, and the pain shot through his bones. He couldn’t help but let out a muffled groan.
Despite the searing pain, Giovani held Camila tightly, his arms trembling as he defied the crushing weight to shield her.
Sean witnessed the scene and shoved Agnes aside before sprinting toward Giovani and Camila. Mud splashed all over him, and the rain blurred his vision. He dodged the falling rocks and shouted, “Mr. Campbell! Ms. Jackson!”
In Giovani’s embrace, Camila’s tears mixed with the rain, streaming uncontrollably down her face.
“Mr. Campbell, you shouldn’t have saved me,” she choked out. But he cacophony of rain and the landslide swallowed her words whole.
The landslide grew more ferocious, uprooting trees and dragging them down with the mud and debris.
“I’m here, Camila. Stay calm.” Giovani gritted his teeth and forced out the words, his voice steady and gentle. Even in this chaos, he still wanted to give her some comfort.
Buried beneath layers of mud and debris, Camila couldn’t see Giovani. But she could feel his unwavering presence as he shielded her with all his might.
But as the weight of the mud increased, Giovani’s arms, once firm, began to buckle. Yet he clenched his teeth, every muscle taut as he refused to give in.
In the darkness, Camila reached out, her trembling fingers searching for Giovani’s face. When her fingertips brushed against the cold rain and mud on his skin, a sharp pain stabbed at her heart.

Instantly, Camila’s heart tightened. She cried, her voice breaking. “Are you okay, Mr. Campbell? Don’t waste your energy on me. I’m not worth saving.”

“You can’t die, Giovani! You promised me–you’d stay with me forever,” Camila shouted. But her voice was swallowed by the relentless rain and thunder.
“Don’t… worry…” Giovani whispered, each word a struggle.
But Camila couldn’t hear him, nor could she see him. All she could feel was his still body on top of hers.
A wave of terror surged through her, and she screamed for help, her voice filled with boundless despair. But no matter how loudly she shouted, no one
answered.
The mud kept piling up, and the air grew suffocating. Camila’s mind grew hazy until she finally succumbed to the overwhelming darkness and passed
out.
Camila came to slowly. Before she could open her eyes, the harsh smell of antiseptic hit her nose.
Images of Giovani shielding her before she blacked out flashed through her mind. Her eyes flew open, and she realized she was in a hospital.
The white ceiling, sterile walls, and the rhythmic beeping of medical equipment confirmed Camila was still alive.
But it didn’t matter–she just wanted to see Giovani. She tried to get out of bed, but her body refused to cooperate. She was completely numb, unable to move or feel anything.
“What’s going on? Am I paralyzed?‘ Panic surged through Camila as she shouted, “Nurse!”
Quickly, a nurse with a solid frame entered the room. She pushed a wheelchair, her face hidden behind a surgical mask.
“Where’s Giovani? How is he?” Camila asked urgently, her voice thick with worry.
The nurse replied flatly, “He’s fine. If you want to see him, I can take you there.”
Something about the nurse’s voice seemed familiar, but Camila couldn’t quite place it. Her mind was too wrapped up in Giovani to care.
