She was barely holding on, but she wasn’t going down quietly. Her life had been a mess of regrets. Now, all she wanted was for her death to mean

something.

She thought bitterly. Lucy killed four people because of me. This is all my fault. I’ve totally wrecked her life. I’m nothing but bad lucka curse that destroys everyone around me.

Hazel lost her job with the Jacksons due to me. Lucy’s hands are covered in blood for me. Even Giovani got crushed by those falling rocks because of me.

If they’d never met me, their lives would’ve been so much better. Now that I’m dying, I gotta make these last moments count.

The doctor left, his words hanging heavy in the air.

Sean, Michael, and Daniel all turned to Camila. The moment they saw Camila was awake, worry flooded their faces.

Camila managed a faint smile and said softly, Don’t worry. I’m fine.

She then looked at Sean. Please don’t tell Giovani about what’s been happening. I don’t want him to worry.

Sean pressed his lips together, hesitating for a moment before nodding in agreement.

Camila’s smile widened. She turned to Michael and said, You’re a doctor. Can you prescribe me some painkillers? I’m dreading the pain.”

Michael froze briefly, a flicker of sympathy flashing in his eyes.

He knew everything Camila had endured, and for her to admit to pain like thisit was a rare and telling moment. It was clear she was in real agony this

time.

Alright, I’ll get them for you right away,Michael said, his voice slightly hoarse.

Camila nodded. After Michael left, she turned to Sean and Daniel and said, I’m feeling really tired. I need to rest for a bit.Her face was ghostwhite, and her eyes could barely stay open.

Seeing how worn out she was, Sean and Daniel told her to get some good rest and left.

The hospital room went quiet, with only Camila left inside. She turned her head to look out the window.

The weather was beautiful today. Sunlight streamed through the window, pooling softly at the edge of her bed.

Camila reached out toward the window, letting the warm rays fall on her arm. The sunlight was warm, but it couldn’t melt the coldness buried deep

inside her.

The sunlight feels so soft. The world is so beautiful. I love so many people. But soon, I’ll never experience any of this again. What a pity,’ she thought, her heart aching.

Time crawled. Michael came back in. Here, take these,” he said softly. They’ll help with the pain.

Camila gave him a faint smile and obediently swallowed the painkillers.

Michael didn’t linger. After a few exchanges, he urged her to rest and quietly left the room.

The room fell silent again, with Camila alone with her thoughts.

After a while, the painkillers kicked in, dulling most of the pain. Camila summoned what little strength she had and climbed out of bed. She shuffled out of her hospital room and made her way to Giovani’s.

Through the glass window on the door, she could see Giovani lying motionless on the bed, his legs encased in plaster. The onceproud Giovani now

looked broken and lifeless, a shadow of his former self.

Inside the room, Sean was speaking to Giovani, though Camila couldn’t make out the words.

Camila’s tears began to fall uncontrollably. This is all my fault, she thought bitterly. If only Giovani had never met me, he wouldn’t be lying there like

this.

She scrubbed at her tears, her gaze fixed on Giovani as though she were trying to etch his image into her very soul. After a long moment, she tore her gaze away and limped down the hallway.

Giovani, I’m so sorry. I can’t even say goodbye to you. If I did, you’d never let me go. So, I can only leave quietly, she whispered to herself.

After leaving the hospital, Camila found a pesticide store and walked in. I’d like a bottle of pesticide, she said.

The clerk looked Camila up and downshe was in a hospital gown, so thin she looked like she might break. Her face was ghostly pale, her eyes empty, like she was barely hanging on.

The clerk’s mind started racing. This girl doesn’t look like she’s buying pesticide for crops. Is she planning to use it to kill herself?

I’m sorry, miss, but I can’t sell you pesticide, the clerk said immediately.

Why not?

The clerk gave an awkward smile. We don’t want to take any risks.

Camila stood there, dazed. Right. Looking like this, everyone’s gonna think I’m planning to off myself with some pesticide.’

She walked away, defeated. The glass window of a nearby shop caught her reflectiona frail, broken figure that barely resembled a person. She stopped

and stared.

A wave of despair washed over her. This body is a wreck. How did I let myself become like this?
