Chapter 86
“Thanks, but I’m fine,” Emma said softly, a hint of gratitude in her voice.
Feeling a bit clearer now, Emma decided it was time to head back. She had been out for a while, and she worried that Ethan might be getting anxious looking for her.
As she turned to leave, she stumbled slightly on the threshold. Ethan, quick on his feet, swiftly caught her before she could fall. Emma found herself unceremoniously thrust into his embrace.
Their eyes locked, and for a moment, Emma’s mind went blank, completely caught off guard by the closeness.
Not far away, a pair of dark eyes watched intently.
“Be careful, there’s a threshold here,” Ethan said gently, his voice low and soothing. It was only then that Emma snapped back to reality, hurriedly stepping out of his arms, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment.
“Thank you,” she mumbled, feeling the heat rise in her face.
Ethan chuckled softly, his eyes crinkling at the corners, exuding a warmth that made him seem approachable and kind.
However, that moment was quickly interrupted when Ethan’s expression turned stormy as he marched over with deliberate strides. He seized Emma’s arm, pulling her forcefully into the suite without any tenderness.
“What the hell are you doing, Ethan?” Emma frowned, glowering at him, clearly displeased.
“What am I doing? Emma, you’ve really outdone yourself. I’m curious how you managed to cozy up to that guy in such a short time,” Ethan’s gaze was piercing, breathing heavily as anger radiated off him. The alcohol still coursing through his system made his emotions volatile.
Seeing Emma with another man had nearly made his head explode with rage.

Seeing Emma with another man had nearly made his head explode with rage.
Emma’s lips twitched in response to his accusation. “Your imagination is quite vivid, Mr. Carter. I don’t even know him! I almost fell, and he just helped me, for God’s sake! How did it turn into something so sordid in your words?”
She gritted her teeth, suppressing her rising frustration as she explained.
But Ethan, suffocated by bourbon–fueled rage, had completely drowned out any rational thought. His cold, unsympathetic eyes bore into Emma as if her explanation were nothing but feeble excuses.
“Come on, the way he looked at you was different,” he scoffed, clearly dismissive of her
words.
