Chapter 0349
“Nicholas, you’re just too unwilling to step out of your comfort zone. Finding a new ‘Mrs. Hawk‘ who fits you is a hassle.
“Maybe you don’t want to spend the time or energy on it, or maybe Daniel is pressuring you. For all these reasons, you said what you did today.”
I looked up into his eyes and spoke softly, “Nicholas, I pretend I didn’t hear that.”
”
The man across from me
Wallowed hard, his hand gripping my shoulder. A faint, lingering pain crept down from my left shoulder, slowing my heartbeat.
Nicholas’s voice trembled slightly. “I can be decisive in everything I do. I trust my judgment. But only you make me feel lost. I can assure you that none of those problems matter to me. When it comes to you, I’ve thought about it for too long.”
His gaze was sincere, and his words were heartfelt. But he was too good at lying. If he didn’t have such an attractive face, and if he wasn’t always so gentle and serious, I wouldn’t have been fooled for so long.
I closed my eyes and repeatedly told myself not to believe him.
Suddenly, I was pulled into his strong embrace. Even with my eyes shut, I recognized his scent. His body seemed to have a space carved out just for me. My body fit into it perfectly, making me feel secure.
A voice inside me kept asking. “Ariana, why can’t anyone else make you feel this way?”
I was almost overwhelmed by this thought, unable to speak. Warm lips touched my forehead, and Nicholas’s voice echoed in my ears.
He said, “Ariana, I’ve come this far. Don’t make me turn back.”
At that moment, I felt lost for words.
I lowered my head, barely able to meet his sincere gaze. “Nicholas, give me some time.”
