"All the mistakes began with me, so today, I will end them.
"Because of my actions, those who deserved punishment were able to evade justice for four long years. I am willing to cooperate with the police investigation, provide the necessary evidence, and take full legal responsibility for any past actions that obstructed their investigation.
"Additionally, I pledge to donate all personal assets under my name to the Autism Care Foundation as my contribution to public welfare."
I was shaken. I was stunned. I didn't know how Nicholas found out about that matter, but what did he mean by taking responsibility?
Was it what I thought it was? Why would he take responsibility for a mistake I made?
Nicholas' voice continued, and I frantically pressed the volume button on my phone, trying to make it louder.
"She once joked with me..." Before finishing his sentence, Nicholas suddenly smiled dotingly, his beautiful eyebrows curving gently.
"She once joked with me that if I wanted her to forgive me, I'd have to kneel in front of the whole world and propose, telling everyone she was the woman I loved the most.
"But I don't know if that still holds after all these years. And the worst part is, even if I wanted to kneel in front of her now, I couldn't, because once again, I've made her angry. I broke the promises I made to her.
"When I face her, I always feel like the biggest fool. I thought I could handle everything well and protect her in my own way.
"But I almost forgot that she has her own personality, her own thoughts. I often overlooked her feelings, and that hurt the person I cared about most.
"For whatever reason, I'm deeply grateful that she's still willing to be in my life. I'm grateful she chose me twenty years ago. No matter whether she still loves me or not..."
