Chapter 140
Xavier lifted his head to look at Yvette. “What did she want from you?”
She showed him the blank check Shanon gave her. “She gave nte this and asked me to leave. you.”
He stared at the check and asked, “Did you tell her you would?”
She shook her head. “Of course I didn’t. We had an agreement.” If she’d left him, how was she supposed to have a third child? She needed to save Noah too.
She pushed the check toward him. “Here. You can have it back.”
He picked it up. After briefly looking at it, he chucked it into the trash. Then, his gaze darkened as it fell on her face. The allergy symptoms hadn’t cleared up yet.
“You made the right choice. Even if you had actually filled in a number on that check, I wouldn’t have given you the money.”
Upon hearing this, Yvette clenched her fists. He was dismissing all her hopes of leaving!
Xavier wiped his hands with a warm towel before standing up to walk toward her. Before she realized what was going on, his fingers fell on the rash on her neck.
It still looked the same. “Have you put on an ointment?”

His fickle demeanor was making her extremely uncomfortable. She gently shifted away
him before replying, “I did.”
Her subtle action didn’t go unnoticed by him. Just as he was about to forcibly touch her again, the doorbell rang.
Who could it possibly be at this hour?
The strange atmosphere of the living room had Yvette springing to her feet. “I’ll get it.”
She made her way around him and swiftly walked over to open the door.
In the middle of that midsummer night, Daphne stood pitifully in front of the door. Her eyes were teary, and she was dressed in a light–colored nightgown.
Upon seeing Yvette at the door, her expression shifted slightly. Then, she said in a gentle
voice, “I’m looking for Xav.”
What a beautiful and pitiful woman! It was no wonder she had managed to win the hearts of both Xavier and Tristan.
Just as Yvette turned around, Xavier made his way over.
Daphne immediately started crying at the sight of him. “Xav…”

His eyebrows furrowed. He didn’t know what she was doing here at this hour.
She headed straight toward him with tears running down her face. “Xav… not long after your left, he came to my house again…”
She lifted her arm as she spoke. It was covered in bruises.
“He wanted to take me with him, but I refused. Then, he tried to get me to jump off the building with him. I’m so scared…” she cried.
“Where was the bodyguard?” He took out his phone to get some clarification on the situation.
