Yvette wasn’t stupid; she understood what Mark was implying. 

“Mr. Xyrax, do you have a girlfriend? Or perhaps a wife?” Yvette asked. 

Mark’s narrow eyes under his gold–rimmed glasses flickered slightly. “I have a fiancée.” 

Mark felt somewhat helpless when he talked about his fiancée. They had met through a blind date and started dating, but the childish woman often threw tantrums. 

Just because he had canceled plans due to work, she wanted to call off the marriage. It was as though she treated marriage like a joke. 

“She must like you a lot, right?” Yvette inquired. 

Mark, much like Xavier, had never considered others feelings and treated people with cold indifference and sharp words. Yvette figured his fiancée must really like him; otherwise, she wouldn’t want to marry him. 

“We’re compatible, that’s all. I wouldn’t say we like each other,” Mark replied. 

“I hope you keep that mindset,” Yvette commented, then lowered her head to focus on her work. 

Mark didn’t understand what she meant, and he didn’t pursue the conversation further. 

After leaving the CEO’s office, he picked up his phone and saw a message from his fiancée. 

“You’re doing overtime again. It’s always work! Why don’t you marry the company? I don’t want to be with you anymore.” 

The veins at Mark’s temples throbbed in frustration. “Here we go again. Keep throwing your tantrums,” he replied. 

If she didn’t want to marry him, so be it. It wasn’t like he couldn’t find someone else to marry. If he had known that she was so immature, he wouldn’t have wasted time dating her in the first place. 

Xavier and Claude only left the office around noon. Both men kept their expressions neutral, giving no indication of what they had discussed or how the conversation had gone. 

Yvette was worried about Claude. With Xavier wielding significant influence in the country, many of Claude’s projects had been stalled. 

Claude immediately came to Yvette when he left Xavier’s office. 

“Let’s have lunch together,” he suggested. He regretted not being able to celebrate her birthday with her yesterday. 

Yvette glanced behind him. 

“Don’t worry, Xavier still has work to do. Also, didn’t he say you should keep me company?” Claude reassured her, knowing her concerns.
