Chapter 163
Xavier raised his long fingers and touched her. “You’re all disheveled. It seems like you two were doing more than just eating.”
His words struck Yvette like a bolt of lightning. What did he mean by that?
She avoided his touch. “Only someone with a filthy mind would think that.”
Xavier’s hand froze mid–air. His narrowed eyes turned cold. “What did I say that was so filthy? The person standing in front of me right now is the filthy one!”
Of course, he knew how Yvette had ended up in her current state. He just wanted to hear her explanation! But instead of explaining, she was scolding him!
“If I’m so filthy, why are you still standing here? Leave now before you dirty your eyes.”
As Xavier’s anger grew, he pulled her into a tight embrace before mocking her, saying, “Do you think he wouldn’t see the marks on your body if you dressed like this?”
Yvette looked at him in disbelief and then glanced down at herself. In her hurry earlier, she hadn’t realized that her collar had come undone, thanks to the waitress‘ actions.
No wonder Claude had had such a strange expression.
“You… How do you know that? Were you spying on me?” Her eyes turned red. Tears welled up in them, blurring her vision.
Xavier felt like needles were poking him when he saw her expression. He didn’t know why it hurt him to see the look on her face.
He couldn’t help but lie, “Do I need to spy on you for this? I could tell at a glance.”
He didn’t know why he had lied about not spying on her. Seeing her on the verge of tears made him feel terrible. He didn’t want her to cry.
Yvette still felt incredibly embarrassed. She would have still felt this way even if it had been Kiki who had seen her today instead of Claude.
She felt dirty and didn’t want anyone to see those marks. She always believed that such things should only happen between people who loved each other, not between those who didn’t.
She knew she was too naïve; they were adults, and even if they didn’t love each other, they could still end up in such situations.
But she couldn’t convince herself otherwise.
She had witnessed the most beautiful love–the love between her grandparents.
They had been a couple who had endured hardships together and had been together since the war. Even when she had been very young, their relationship had still been going strong.
She remembered how her grandmother had suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and forgotten everyone when she had been in her 60s.
But her grandfather, who had been the wealthiest man in the city at the time, had never given up on her.

He had given up his position as chairman of the company and taken care of her for more than ten years until she had passed away in her 70s. After Yvette’s grandmother’s death, her grandfather had never smiled again.
Yvette had once asked her grandfather why he had been willing to take care of her grandmother for so many years without complaint.
