Chapter 214
Shannon had bought a lot of valuable toys for Zachary just to make him happy. Unexpectedly, he didn’t care about them at all.
“Thank you, Mrs. Lane, but my mom has taught me not to accept gifts from strangers.”
Yvette resisted the urge to rush to him at that moment. Yet, didn’t know if Shannon had found out that Zachary was her son, so she couldn’t act irrationally.
Shannon crouched in front of Zachary. She felt sad when she heard him calling her a stranger. “Why am I a stranger, Zac? We’ve known each other for a few months, right? I really like you.”
When she heard him mentioning his mother, she thought of Kiki. Then, she added, “Is your mom worried about me? I’ll meet up with her after the holiday tomorrow, and we can have a talk. That way, we won’t be strangers anymore, right?”
Zachary didn’t think the elderly woman who bullied his mother would be so persistent.
For the past few weeks, Shannon had been using Malcolm as an excuse to talk to Zachary every day. She would give him gifts and food. Even though he had rejected them all, she still refused to give up.
When he thought about what she had done to Yvette in the past, he didn’t treat her nicely either. “Mrs. Lane, I might be a kid, but I know something you don’t. If someone doesn’t like you, then there’s no point in flattering them.”
Shannon was upset when she heard that. It wasn’t just because he had hurt her, he was also acting the/ exact same way Xavier had when he had been younger. When Xavier had been a child, he said something similar. 1
“Do you dislike me?” She didn’t know what was wrong with her and couldn’t believe she felt this upset. Zachary smiled like a gentleman. “I’m sorry, Mrs. Lane. I have my own grandmother.”
Yvette was the only one who knew how their relationship was affecting Shannon. Only Shannon’s actual son and grandson had the ability to hurt her like that.
She had given Zachary hundreds of gifts, but he had rejected them all. Meanwhile, Malcolm, who was standing at the side while holding Mandy’s hand, felt extremely jealous. “Why does Grandma Shannon like Zac so much? He’s not even her actual grandson.”
Mandy didn’t know what was going on either. All she knew was that Shannon had been treating Zachary like her own grandson ever since she had seen him.
Yvette had been watching them from afar the whole time. However, she still didn’t know why Shannon had gone to see Zachary and given him gifts.
She also didn’t know that Zachary had already noticed her. He knew she didn’t want him to recognize her, so he pretended like he hadn’t seen her.
When the Torres family’s driver arrived to pick him up, he said to Shannon, “All children like kind people.” Shannon had never expected that the child she liked so much would think that she wasn’t kind enough. It was true that she wasn’t a saint, but she didn’t understand why a child would say that,
After getting back into the car, Shannon returned to her usual cold self. Then, she said to Yvette, “Did you
