Chapter 215
After they had returned to the mansion, Shannon asked Yvette to think it through and not to reject the offer so quickly. “After all, you and I both know the Snyder family is doomed. Where could a divorced woman like you find a stable income?”
Yvette stood on the balcony in Xavier’s room and looked at the view outside as she thought about what Shannon had said.
Why couldn’t a divorced woman be independent and live a normal life? She wanted Shannon to know one day that she didn’t have to rely on others.
After she was done thinking about it, Yvette placed a glass of water down and video–called Kiki.
“What’s up, Yvvy?” The latter was enjoying some fruits.
“Kiki, I want to speak with Zac.”
“Sure. Please hold on.” Kiki turned the camera toward Zachary. He was dressed neatly as he sat at his. desk.
“Hi, Mom.”
“Hey.” Yvette smiled. She wondered how she should ask him how Shannon knew him. Unexpectedly, he spoke first.
“I saw you today.”
Yvette was stunned for a moment. “Then, why didn’t you call out to me?”
Zachary looked mature as he said, “Because you didn’t approach me. I figured you were busy with something else, so I didn’t disturb you.”
After he finished saying that, he purposely told her about Shannon. “Mom, did you see an elderly woman today? Ever since she saw me at kindergarten, she’s come looking for me a lot.”
When Yvette heard Zachary calling Shannon an elderly woman, she was amused. Meanwhile, all the doubts she had vanished instantly. “That’s because our beloved Zac is adorable. That’s why she likes you so much,” she said.
Zachary smiled and said, “Mom, there’s a holiday tomorrow. I’ve already sent Grandma your regards.”
“That’s great. Thank you, baby.” At that moment, Yvette wanted to hug her sensible son badly.
Since she was at Lane Mansion, she couldn’t talk to them for too long. So, she unwillingly hung up.
Yvette didn’t know where Xavier was. She stayed in the bedroom alone and became rather bored. She was also surprised when she noticed Lynn wasn’t there anymore. She wondered if the latter hadn’t complained to Clifford about her.
Meanwhile, Clifford was drinking tea in a retro–styled room in the east wing of the mansion. Luther was standing by his side, and Xavier was sitting to his right Malcolm and his parents, Zayden Lane and Marlene Larson, were seated opposite Clifford.
“Grandpa, Marlene and I hurried back to the country after we finished our meeting. We’ve heard that Xav

has appointed an outsider to be the general manager.”
Zayden got straight to the point. “I think it’s better if someone from the Lane family manages the family business. If Xav is too busy to do that, Marlene and I can help.”
He was being shameless. Xavier was the one who had made Lane Group successful. He and Marlene had asked Clifford to arrange a risk–free company for them a long time ago for their own benefit.
Xavier listened to Zayden silently and smiled coldly. He didn’t say anything; he wanted to see how ambitious the couple was.
Clifford, being a cunning man himself, understood what was going on. “Since you two want to help Xav, you should be asking him about this instead.”
Zayden was stunned for a moment, and he felt awkward. He didn’t know what to do.
