In that instant, Elysia felt her heart leap right up into her throat.
"Ama, what's going on?"
Without a second thought, she dashed towards the bathroom and yanked open the door.
A thick cloud of smoke billowed out, engulfing Elysia's face. She coughed violently, her eyes watering and barely able to open. Clutching the cabinet for support, she tried to regain her composure.
Squinting into the bathroom, she could just make out the flickering flames through the haze, and a silhouette huddled in the corner, crying out in terror.
Elysia's eyes widened in shock. How on earth could a fire start in such a damp place like the bathroom, and such a big one at that? This was practically arson!
Yet, the bathroom door had been closed since Amara went in. How could this have happened?
Her mind was in chaos, but one thought was clear—Amara was in danger!
She looked around desperately for something to shield herself from the flames, hoping to find something to wrap around her and make a dash inside. Spotting a thick shawl nearby, Elysia grabbed it, wrapped it around herself, and, with a determined look at the smoke-filled bathroom, steeled herself to run in.
"Ms. Moon, what are you doing!"
The commotion had drawn the attention of the housekeeper, a woman in her forties, who rushed in and grabbed Elysia to stop her.
"Let go!" Elysia shouted, "Ama is in there!"
"Please, calm down. I'll call 911 right now. She'll be alright."
"There's no time for 911, I don't know how much longer Ama can hold on."
The thick smoke and dancing flames made it impossible to see inside. She had no idea if Amara had found a safe spot or was enduring the fire’s wrath.
But it was too late. Finnian had already plunged into the inferno.
Watching this unfold, both Elysia in Dorian’s arms and the gathered house staff were wide-eyed with shock.
"Amara, Amara."
Suddenly, a voice called out to her through the chaos.
Amara lifted her head and thought she saw a tall, familiar figure. Could it really be him?
