Chapter 53
This Jocelyn woman actually dared to bad–mouth Lorraine behind her
back?
Was she wishing for a swift end?
“My archnemesis from school. She’s still targeting me even though we’ve graduated. Come with me to the class reunion and you’ll see.”
Logan agreed with a grunt, planning to wait and see how Jocelyn targeted Lorraine before making his move.
Just then, they heard the sound of dogs barking echoing through the cherry orchard.
Since they were near the entrance, Lorraine decided to check who had arrived. She climbed down from the ladder, grabbed a handful of cherries, and started eating them as she walked toward the gate.
A car was parked at the orchard entrance. It looked brand new, possibly just bought.
The dogs were lined up at the entrance, barking furiously at the car. The person inside seemed too scared to get out until Lorraine appeared. Only then did the driver cautiously open the door and step out.
Even then, the dogs rushed forward.
“Back!” Lorraine commanded, and the dogs stopped in their tracks. After a look back, they returned to her side, their tails wagging. Even so, their eyes remained fixed on the driver. Even a seven–foot–tall man would tremble under the gaze of these fierce dogs.
“Don’t be afraid, sir. They might seem fierce, but as long as I’m here, they won’t attack you.”

The driver smiled awkwardly and said, “It’s hard not to be scared when multiple big dogs rush at you. Are you Ms. Lorraine Somner?”
“I am. Are you here to buy cherries?”
“I’m here to escort someone,” the driver replied, glancing around the orchards. “You have a pretty big orchard.”
“It’s alright,” Lorraine said. The cherry orchard originally had about 600 cherry trees, each around 20 years old.
