Victor slapped Rankin's approaching hand away and said impatiently, "Don't talk about Elinor so often... It's not like I'm interested in her."
"She's so pretty."
Rankin deliberately overstated, "You are not interested in her? Cut the crap."
Victor held up his hands, "Will you give me a break if I swear?"
"Yes."
Rankin nodded, "Then I'm relieved."
Victor frowned, "What do you want?"
Rankin looked around and then pulled out a chair to sit down next to Victor. He was the only one in the whole academy who dared to talk to Victor like this. They were best friends. Then Rankin took out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and threw one to Victor.
Victor laughed and said, "I'm going to report you. The vice president of the student council smokes."
Rankin took a deep puff and exhaled the smoke. He squinted and looked at Victor, "It's not a big deal. I'm not the president of the student council."
"I heard that you had the most votes at the time."
Victor's expression was serious. "After all, you have so many fans in the school. But why did you give up the first place to Darleen later?"
Rankin exhaled the smoke and looked at Victor slowly from the smoke with his squinted, long eyes. He smiled and said, "I didn't want to be high-profile. But I think it would be better to have the president of the student council be a girl. After all, some male students are embarrassed to reject a girl."
"To put it bluntly, you just don't want to stand out."
Victor's eyes sharpened all of a sudden. "You don't want others to find your talent. You'd rather be a dumb playboy in everyone's eyes?"
"Well..."
Rankin shook his head and said, "I think we are the same kind, aren't we? Victor, you can understand me, right?"
