Chapter 152 I Found Her Outside the Door
Josephine couldn’t help but notice that even the desk name plate had been changed.
Josephine’s heart sank as she considered the possibility. “Could it be that Robert and the other board members had unanimously agreed to dismiss Lewis at yesterday’s shareholders meeting simply because he was late due to being delayed? If someone else is now the president, then where is he?” She didn’t know the answer to her questions. All she knew was that this was his office. She rushed out of the office and sought out her colleague from earlier
to ask about the situation.
“What? We even have a new president?” the colleague exclaimed in surprise.
“No way. I did hear about this earlier, but I thought it was a joke. Do we really have a new president?” another colleague chimed in after having overheard the conversation.
“I don’t know. I haven’t been to the president’s office today.
“I did see someone enter earlier, and I thought he was President Alvarez. Hey Josephine, is the man in the office wearing a beige suit, gold–framed glasses, and has delicate features?”
Josephine nodded fervently.
“Then that was the man I saw. Damn, how were there no rumors about this?”
“I didn’t hear anything about it either. Could it be that the company has been acquired?”
“You’ve got to be kidding! Who could possibly be so affluent to do such a thing?”
“Good point…This won’t do. They have even replaced the president. I’m feeling very anxious right now. I have to go ask around for more info.”
“I’ll come with you!”
Josephine’s two colleagues left the office together, leaving her alone. Even Sophia and Conrad were nowhere to be seen. Her heart felt unsettled–could it be that they had both been dismissed too? Taking out her phone, she was about to send Lewis a text, but she lowered her arm when she recalled his attitude last night. There was no telling if he would entertain her.
Sophia finally appeared around noon and called Josephine and her two colleagues into a
meeting.
“I’m sure you’re all aware that there have been some major changes within the company, and your positions can also change at any given moment. Thus, you must ensure that you get your job done so as not to be put onto the chopping block Now that we have a new president, no
one knows how he’ll act.”
“There really is a new president?”
Sophia nodded slightly. “This is something I want to talk to you all about as well.
Chapter 152 | Found Her Outside the Door
Interestingly, the new president shares the last name Alvarez, and it’s possible that others might face dismissal too. That’s why we must do our jobs well and without mistakes.”
“Alvarez? Whose son is he?”
“Who knows? Isn’t it normal for such a large family like the Alvarezes to have many offspring?
“Wasn’t the company in trouble previously? Could it be that they’ve appointed a new president because of that?”
“Alright, enough speculation. Get back to work,” Sophia interjected before leaving.
Puzzled, she then made a phone call once she was out of earshot. “Alvarez Corp has a new president. Does that mean…”
Seth chuckled. “Oh, really?”
“Yes, I saw him myself. There have been other personnel changes within the company, and Lewis has yet to make an appearance.”
“The situation is not that straightforward. Please continue monitoring the situation closely and refrain from contacting me unless absolutely necessary.”
“Where are you?” she asked, taken aback.
“You don’t need to care about my whereabouts. Just do your job.”
“Alright…”
Hearing the unease in her voice, Seth chuckled again before asking, “Don’t tell me you’re worried about Lewis, Soph?”
Her whole body stiffened before she hurriedly replied, “No, I was just wondering.”
“I sure hope not for your sake. I’ll be very disappointed if you do.”
There was an underlying threat behind his words, which Sophia was able to pick up on. Her expression changed to one of resolution, and she responded in a matching tone. “Don’t worry.
I would never.”
“That’s good. I’m hanging up.”
Sophia became lost in thought as she stared at her phone.
Meanwhile, Josephine, who had been in the office the entire day, texted Conrad when she couldn’t find Lewis. Conrad didn’t know where Lewis was either, as he had been busy sorting out paperwork all day. Now that Lewis had become chairman of the board, his position in the company had been elevated as well to chairman’s assistant.
“I don’t know” was all Conrad sent in response to her text.

Mulling it over, she opened her contacts list and pulled up the info of the person who was most likely to know where Lewis would be–Sierra. However, Sierra would never tell her even if she did know, so Josephine discarded the idea and texted Fred instead.
Fred promptly replied with an audio message, “Hi Josephine, Lewis was at Magic Cube last night, but I don’t know where he is today. I haven’t seen him either.”
A thought flashed through her mind–could he be passed out drunk at Magic Cube? An image of a drunk Lewis being kicked out of the shareholders meeting appeared in her mind, all because he had come to the farm to look for her. Not only did she not appreciate it, she even chose to side with Seth. Lewis had every right to be angry. Guilt squeezed her heart. She was the reason Lewis had gotten into trouble. She was so ungrateful and was really at fault this time…
She exited the company building and hailed a cab to Magic Cube. It was her second visit to the place; the previous one was with Avery. With no clear plan on how to locate Lewis, she decided to begin her search from the main hall. Magic Cube’s first floor housed an incredibly spacious bar. The bar, with colorful lights flashing and loud music blaring, was already packed with people at this hour. As she navigated through the throng of people, she scanned her surroundings in all directions, 1
The harsh, relentless strobe lights wreaked havoc on her senses, making it nearly impossible to distinguish the faces in the dimly lit setting. Lost amidst the erratic flashes, she found herself forcefully pulled onto the dancefloor by an intoxicated individual, grinding against her with unwelcome advances. She shoved the man aside and made a beeline for the stairs.
Based on Lewis‘ nature, he probably wouldn’t be grinding about on the dance floor. It was more likely that he’d be upstairs in a private room. Stopping before the private room from last time, she stared at the firmly shut doors, which didn’t allow her any glimpse of what was
within.
“What are you doing here?” a sudden voice from behind startled her, making her jump in. surprise.
