Chapter 157 Alright, Stop Crying
Lewis looked at Sierra with an indecipherable smile. “So?”
“I’m just a little confused. I can’t think of a reason to convince myself to continue staying by your side since you don’t want to marry me.
He just looked at her and didn’t say anything.
“Oh, come on. Then why don’t you tell me, Lewis, do you have feelings for me?”
“Is that important?”
“Of course it is. If you don’t even have feelings for me, are penniless, and don’t plan on marrying me, then wouldn’t I be insane to continue being with you?”
He nodded his head in feigned seriousness. “That’s true. You have a point. Get out of the car then.”
His last words made Sierra’s heart freeze. “What?”
“Get out,” he repeated before continuing, “Don’t ever contact me again.”
“You…” She was at a loss for words. Even though she had taken the time to weigh the pros and cons and mentally prepare herself, her heart still irrepressibly sank at Lewis’ words. Similar to being dunked into an ice bath, the sudden shock made her go pale. She couldn’t deny what her heart was telling her. She had genuinely fallen in love with him, to the point where she couldn’t even convince herself to leave.
Desperate, she grabbed onto his arm. “Lewis, 1-
“You’re not wrong. Anyone would have the same thought as you, so you don’t have to say anything else.” Lewis cut her off.
“That’s not it. I want to say-
“I’ve already told you before, you can leave whenever you want to, and you still have the right to do so, be it past or present.” He once again interrupted her.
His seemingly sentimental words were actually cold and cruel. They pierced her heart like needles. She didn’t hold back and allowed her tears to flow freely. Holding his bicep firmly, she choked on her sobs as she said, “But you also once said that you wouldn’t chase me away if I chose to stay with you.”
He found her words ironic, and his gaze was so intense it was as though it might bore through
her.
“Have you already forgotten what you’ve said earlier?”
“I…” Sierra was once again speechless, and she was regretful.
“I’m not chasing you away, Sierra, you chose this. And since you’ve already made your decision, please don’t second-guess yourself.”
She shook her head. “No, I regret my decision. I won’t leave regardless of how much you owe or whether you’re the president. I’ll stick with you even if you are homeless and wandering the streets! You don’t even need to get a divorce…”
money
Her voice became small when she said those last words. Although they were petty, they were from the heart. She just couldn’t let him go. She loved him so, so much. It was only when she set aside her pride and in the face of separation did she finally realize her true feelings. Even she found it unimaginable that she would love him to this extent.
Lewis stared at her and didn’t say a thing. Even the wry smirk on his face was gone. As though wanting to prove her sincerity, she dug through her purse and took out numerous bank cards from within as well as the keys to her house and car.
She placed all these items on the dashboard of his car. “Take them. I’m giving it all back to you. You should still be able to get some money out of the house and car if you sell them off.”
He glanced at the items but still didn’t speak.
“Oh, that’s right. I’ll also give you all my earnings from the latest film once it is released. Besides, I’m a little bit famous now that you’ve endorsed me. I can take on more movie roles, and if that isn’t enough, I can also start doing live streams with product placements to help you clear off your debt!” She was so frantic that her face had turned red. She stared at him with teary eyes and broke out into sobs before he could even respond. Clutching his hand, she unprecedentedly begged him in a humble tone. “Don’t chase me away, please?”
His deep gaze fell on her face, and he looked at her for a long time before letting out a helpless sigh. He maneuvered the hand she was clutching so that it was now holding hers. Then he reached out his other hand to help her wipe away her tears.
“Do you have to go this far?”
“I don’t care. I thought about a lot of things during the drive back earlier, and they were all from my selfish point of view. I didn’t even care if I heartlessly broke up with you, but when I made up my mind to do so, the thought of not being able to see you ever again made my heart feel as though a chunk had been taken out of it and that there was no longer any point in living.”
Her words made him laugh.
“How could you laugh! Since you’ve said that the choice is up to me, I’m not going. I’ll follow you everywhere, even if it’s to go out and beg for food!”
Lewis’ gaze became complicated. Some time passed before he eventually said in a low voice, Alright, stop crying.”
Sierra clumsily dashed away her tears and clung to his arm. She looked longingly at him as she
said, “So we’re not breaking up, right?”
“Whatever you wish.”
“You!”
“As long as you’re aware of what staying by my side will entail and are mentally prepared to face what is to come.”
“I am. I know better than anyone else! You don’t have to say anymore.” Her tone was resolute, and she looked him directly in the eyes as though to prove her determination.
