What Separates Me and You novel Chapter 156

Chapter 156 Will You Give Me Money

Josephine’s fingers clutched his sleeve tightly, and she didn’t respond for a very long time. She didn’t know how to react to his question, especially when he had such a look in his eyes.

Without warning, Lewis abruptly pushed her off his lap and onto the couch. He rose to his feet, ready to leave, when she grabbed his sleeve again. Turning back, his gaze softened when he saw the pleading look in her eyes, but it only lasted for a split second because his phone rang. He took out his phone from his shirt pocket and answered it in front of her.

“I haven’t seen you in days, Lewi. Where are you?” came Sierra’s voice over the phone.

“At home.”

When she heard those two words, Sierra’s temper flared as usual, but she squashed it down.” I’m back in Elysium. How about you come and get me?”

He didn’t answer Sierra’s question but instead glanced at Josephine from the corner of his Josephine, who still held on to his sleeve, slowly released it when she saw his cold gaze. He waited until she had released her grip before he replied to Sierra. “Where are you?”

eye.

“I just got off the plane. Come pick me up from the airport.”

“Okay.” He then hung up and immediately left without even sparing a glance at Josephine.

Josephine sat dumbfounded on the couch and fixed her gaze on his receding, determined form. She bit her lower lip and dejectedly lowered her head.

Lewis raced all the way to the airport, but the distance meant he arrived late. On the brink of impatience after waiting in the parking lot for what felt like an eternity, Sierra finally spotted a Bentley. It accelerated towards her, coming to a precise stop right in front of her within

moments.

As the window lowered, she leaned forward to peer inside. Upon spotting the familiar figure within, her face lit up, prompting her to swiftly open the car door and climb in. She was accompanied by her manager, Tom Wright, who loaded her luggage into the trunk before settling into the backseat.

She gave Lewis a big hug when she entered the car and leaned her head against his shoulder. ” I’ve missed you so much, Lewis. Did you miss me?”

“Fasten your seatbelt.”

His demeanor was as cold as ever. Pouting, she sat back in her seat and did as she was told.

Tom secretly eyed Lewis from the backseat. It was his first time meeting Sierra’s financial backer. Having heard about his tall and handsome appearance, Tom could now confirm it with his own eyes. Moreover, he could discern from the reflection of Lewis’ sharp eyes in the rearview mirror that the latter wasn’t a pushover.

With renewed vigor, Sierra launched into a familiar diatribe, venting about the draining nature of filming, the perpetual overruns, the lengthy hair and makeup routines, and the overall lack of enjoyment. She even toyed with the idea of a career shift into singing. Lewis ignored her the entire ride back and left her to ramble on.

She stopped upon noticing this and asked him, “Why aren’t you saying anything, Lewis? Not in a good mood today?”

“Took you long enough to notice.” Lewis’ tone was curt, but to her, it sounded as though he was joking with her.

“Oh, that’s right,” she said as a thought came to mind, “I happened to catch the news a few days ago. Is the Alvarez family in a bit of trouble?”

“Hmm.”

“Then what about you? Are you affected?”

He kept his eyes on the road and plainly said, “Does resigning count?”

“Re-Resigning?” The ignorant Sierra knew nothing about such matters. All she knew was that being a company president meant that one was practically untouchable. Hence, who did he give his resignation to?

“What do you mean? Are you no longer the president of Alvarez Corp?”

“That’s exactly what I mean.”

“Ah, I see…” Her expression changed as she discreetly glanced at her manager’s expression from the rearview mirror.

She had been boasting to him over the last few days, but now that Lewis had said he was no longer Alvarez Corp’s president, didn’t that mean that she had just majorly embarrassed herself?

She forced a smile. “You’re just messing with me, right?”

Lewis chuckled. “Are you going to give me money if I am?”

Sierra fell into a stunned silence, her emotions swirling within her. His words had struck her like a bolt of lightning, shattering the happiness she had been experiencing. She was a materialistic person, but she also really, really liked him. However, if he wasn’t willing to marry her, and he didn’t have the means to continue backing her, then why the hell was she still with him?

Perhaps it was because she was silent for too long as Lewis glanced over at her and asked, What’s wrong?”

Snapping out of her reverie, she kept a smile on her face with much effort. “N-Nothing’s wrong. I’m just wondering why you resigned out of the blue.”

“I caused the company to lose a few hundred billion,” he stated plainly.

Her eyes widened. “A few hundred billion?”

“Yes.”

She almost slid off her seat from shock, thinking, “How much was a few hundred billion?” She wasn’t sure as she had never seen such an amount in her life.

“Then…are you now in debt?”

“You can say that.”

Sierra was speechless once again, and the tumultuous feeling inside her grew. Not only did he resign, but he was also now in debt. Her impression of him immediately plummeted.

“Why have you gone quiet again?” Lewis’ tone was light and didn’t sound anything like a person in severe debt, which was something she found odd. She had a feeling he was testing her.
