What Separates Me and You novel Chapter 427

Josephine was too busy munching on a fried chicken drumstick in her dreams to know what Lewis was doing.

Her mother didn't like her eating unhealthy food. Josephine was currently engaged in a tug-of-war with her mother.

She sank her teeth into the drumstick to prevent her mother from snatching it away. She used every ounce of her energy to protect her drumstick. Her jaws clenched tighter with every second that passed.

At the same time, Lewis glowered more as she did so. He used his free hand to force Josephine's jaws open and had to jerk his finger to rescue it from her mouth.

His finger glistened with her saliva, and her bite mark showed clearly. He rose to his feet and left the bedroom.

Nancy was still in a heated argument with Mrs. Larson downstairs. Lewis ignored their presence and went to the study.

Eventually, Nancy left in a sulky mood. Conrad happened to drop by when she was on her way out. She pulled him aside and asked, "Mr. Berg, what's on Lewis' mind recently?"

Conrad was stunned. He hid the documents he held behind him. "He's busy with work at the office, of course."

Nancy eyed him suspiciously.

Conrad didn't want to bring the conversation any further and nodded respectfully. "Mrs. Alvarez, I'll be heading inside." With that, he darted into the mansion and made a beeline for the study.

He handed the documents to Lewis. "Sir, we examined every surveillance footage we could find and Mr. Acre's call history. The footage showed him leaving for the outskirts in a car, after which he was never seen again. The last conversation he had on the phone …" Conrad hesitated and glanced at Lewis before he continued, "was with you."

Lewis took the documents. He scanned the surveillance images and records of Mr. Acre's call history.

Conrad added, "Mr. Acre's wife claimed he left after a phone call. He didn't seem any different when he left and was acting like his usual self."

Lewis listened in silence. A smirk formed on his lips as he studied the surveillance images. "Look at all the trouble he went through."

Conrad instantly understood who Lewis was referring to—who else could it be if not Kiran?

Conrad was pissed as he thought about the man who had been relentlessly bothering them. "That bastard's stirring trouble right after being discharged. He clearly has too much free time!"

Lewis commented, "That's not true. He's doing all these because of me." He tossed the photos on the table and continued, "If I guess correctly, the police will find Mr. Acre's corpse within these few days. They'll also find that all the evidence isn't in my favor."

Conrad was flustered. "What should we do?"

"We must find his corpse before they do."

"Alrig—Wait. How are you so sure Mr. Acre's dead, sir?"

Lewis pinched the bridge of his nose. "If he isn't, he'll let the cat out of the bag when they find him, won't he?"

Conrad was enlightened. In that case, wouldn't Mr. Acre have only a slim chance of surviving? "I'll send some men to search for him."

"Search where he can be easily found. Our rival wants the police to discover his corpse. He won't hide it somewhere secluded."

"Roger that." Conrad glanced at the documents and hesitated. Then, he said, "Oh, there's another thing. I think Mr. Fairchild is here to muddy the waters."

Lewis arched an eyebrow. "I almost forgot about him."

"Hm?"

"Get him to join the search. He should know where the corpse is."

Conrad frowned. He was puzzled.
