What Separates Me and You novel Chapter 429

Mrs. Larson almost fell off the couch in shock. She rushed over and grabbed Josephine by the arm.

"Madam, where are you going at this hour?"

Josephine turned around and touched her belly. "I'm hungry."

Mrs. Larson pulled her back into the villa. "Gosh, come back inside. I left some food for you. If you're hungry, just let me know. Why would you think of going out?"

"Where's Lewis?"

"Mr. Alvarez …" Mrs. Larson looked unsure. She didn't know where her employer was, but she kept up with the news online. She guessed that Lewis might be at the police station.

Of course, she wouldn't tell Josephine that. Instead, she explained, "He's busy at work but will be home soon. Let's eat."

Josephine was dragged into the dining hall and ate her dinner. It wasn't clear if they were having dinner or an early breakfast, as it was 4 am.

When Josephine was done, she drank the herbal concoction prepared for her. She wasn't a fan of it, though.

Josephine had no one to complain to because Lewis wasn't at home. So, she wiped away her tears and sucked on a lollipop on the couch.

Mrs. Larson tried to pacify her with a lollipop instead of ice cream because it was too late at night.

Mrs. Larson wanted to put on an animation for Josephine. The news channel was discussing Mr. Acre when she turned it on.

The host skillfully brought up the topic. He didn't reveal the names of the individuals or companies involved in the case. He merely hinted that Mr. Acre was linked to the will of a significant person from a company. He simply said the matter was currently under investigation.

However, most people knew who the individual in question was.

Lewis Alvarez made himself a lot of enemies, much like the Green family. When he was in trouble, everyone reveled in his misfortune and threw rocks at him.

Josephine asked Mrs. Larson to change the channel because she didn't want to watch the news. Mrs. Larson quickly put on Looney Tunes before cleaning up the dining table.

Seth dropped by around dawn. He strode into the villa and sat beside Josephine, who was fast asleep. He quietly watched Looney Tunes with interest.

Mrs. Larson jumped when she found him on the couch. She went up and whispered in his ear, "Mr. Fairchild, what brings you here?"

"Shh." He gestured for her to stay quiet and not wake Josephine up.

Mrs. Larson responded, "She doesn't wake easily."

Josephine had slept like a log when Mrs. Larson told her dinner was ready. Josephine must be even more exhausted now.

Seth looked at the young lady dressed in pajamas and a nightcap. She was curled up in the corner of the couch like a poor puppy in a cage.

Mrs. Larson worked on driving Seth out. "Mr. Fairchild, Mr. Alvarez doesn't want you visiting Josephine."

Seth chuckled. "Why are you still loyal to him when he can't even save himself? You might not be paid this month, you know."

She was taken aback and questioned with concern, "I-Is he going to be okay?"

"God knows." Unbothered, Seth toyed with Josephine's nightcap.

Mrs. Larson felt lost, but at least she didn't kick Seth out anymore.

Seth added, "I think it's more complicated than it seems."

"What do you mean?"

"You're awake."

Josephine looked blank as she gazed at the man who had just spoken. Seth's smiling eyes overlapped with her memories of Alex.

"Alex," she mumbled, and Seth immediately froze. He questioned, "What did you call me?"

A barrage of tears streamed down her face. Josephine stared intently at Seth. Then, she plunged into his arms. "Alex, I miss you a lot."

Seth couldn't bring himself to smile upon hearing the muffled sobs. His body stiffened as she cried in his embrace.

Josephine snuggled against him and refused to let go. It had been a while since she saw him. She worried he'd disappear, just like he did in her dreams.

A mortified Mrs. Larson stood frozen for a moment before going up to separate the two.

"Mr. Fairchild, she needs to take the herbal concoction now."

Fifteen hours had passed since Josephine fell asleep early in the morning. After a long silence, Seth gently pushed Josephine away. He reminded her, "It's time to take the herbal concoction."

She stared keenly at him until she realized he looked different. She touched her cheeks. "Alex, you are all grown up."

Seth pushed her hand away and corrected her flatly, "You got the wrong person. I'm not Alex."

She shook her head with a determined look. "But you are." Something occurred to her, and she hugged him once more. "Alex, did I do something to upset you?"

Mrs. Larson was at her wits' end. Suddenly, she noticed Lewis standing by the door. He seemed hostile in his black windbreaker that almost merged into the night.

Mrs. Larson trembled and dropped the porcelain mug in her hand. It shattered into pieces, and water spilled across the floor.
