What Separates Me and You novel Chapter 445

Seth reached out to tuck Jospehine's loose hair behind her ear. His movements were very gentle.

"Alright, I'll take you home."

Finally, he dropped his mask and presented his gentle self that matched his appearance.

He was showing his true self.

Holding Josephine's shoulder, Seth helped her up.

Josephine leaned against him as they walked toward the exit of the woods.

The dappled sunlight painted patterns on them and cast shadows behind them.

It was like how he held her hand and walked her home from school when they were young.

However, there was a touch of loneliness now.

They could only rely on each other now.

They were all each other had left in this world.

As for what Seth had done to her, Josephine didn't resent him because she thought Seth did the right thing.

She herself believed she deserved to be punished. She even felt unworthy of living in this world.

She owed it to the Vance family and her parents.

She also felt sorry for Alex.

She was supposed to bear this burden with Seth, but she let him fight alone all these years. He shouldered everything he shouldn't have for her.

How could she ever hate him?

"So, is it related to the Alvarez family?" Seth's voice echoed in the woods.

"Yes."

"Well then, looks like I didn't pick the wrong person."

Josephine closed her eyes and recalled the moment when she saw Alan. Many people were standing behind him, and she witnessed them firing shots.

Alan's men were about to shoot her when he picked her up from among the bodies.

However, he raised his hand to stop them. "Enough."

"Old Mr. Alvarez, leaving her behind could cause trouble later."

Alan waved his hand. Surveying the sea of corpses around him, he let out a long sigh.

"We were once partners. Let's leave some hope for their family."

Alan crouched and smiled kindly to the young girl before him. "Little girl, do you know who I am?"

The young girl stared straight at him. She didn't seem afraid, nor did she seem sad. She simply shook her head with a puzzled expression.

"Would you like to follow me home?"

The young girl tilted her head and stared at him for a while. She then cautiously reached out her tiny hand and grabbed onto his sleeve.

At that moment, Alan felt his heart melt. Disregarding his subordinates' objections, he lifted her into his arms.

"Let's go home."

Lewis leaned on the car seat. He looked at the forest through the window with a hard-to-understand face.

Conrad glanced at him several times, then looked out the window. But Josephine had yet to appear.

"Lewis, how about we head back first? We can get Phineas to bring Mrs. Alvarez back."

Lewis withdrew his gaze and stared absentmindedly ahead. "Will she come back?"

His voice carried an indiscernible emotion. It was almost like he was talking to himself.

Conrad casually remarked, "Probably. Where else would she go?"

Conrad didn't know Josephine had recovered her memories. He still believed she was the little child from before, unaware of the world and dependent on Lewis.

Lewis remained silent. All Conrad could hear was the sound of a lighter flicking.

"Drive."

Conrad nodded and pulled the car out.

Dr. Halliday was already waiting in the living room when Lewis arrived at Styx Mansion.

Mrs. Larson, who got knocked unconscious earlier, now had her head bandaged. Seeing the unkempt and battered Lewis, she stood nervously by the doorway.

"Mr. Alvarez, I'm sorry, I—"

Lewis raised his hand to interrupt her. He walked past her and headed straight into the house.

Perhaps it was the familiarity of his tuxedo or the contours of his eyes and eyebrows that triggered her recognition.

She remembered that her father and grandfather loved wearing tuxedos, but not Seth.

Seth retrieved a handkerchief to wipe away the bloodstains from her face. However, the blood had already dried. He couldn't remove them.

Josephine lowered her head and whispered, "What about my brothers?"

Her youngest brother was two years older than her. He would be as handsome as Seth now if he were still alive.

Seth's movement paused.

Josephine had eight brothers. She had three older biological brothers and five cousins from her uncles.

She was the youngest, and they loved to call her Josie. She was the only girl in her generation.

Back then, the Vance family had a peaceful and harmonious life. Everyone was close to each other.

The boys had never had a sister before. So they loved to hang out with her, tease her, pinch her, and play pranks on her. Josephine hated them when she was young.

Yet now, she could no longer see them even if she wanted to.

"Stop thinking about it," Seth put away the handkerchief and pulled her up. "Let's go."

Josephine stood up, but her legs gave out, and she collapsed.

Seth reacted fast and caught her.

He looked at Josephine with a complex expression. Even though she had regained her memories, her physical condition hadn't improved.

After a pause, Seth turned around and knelt in front of her.

"Come on, I'll carry you."

Josephine bit her lip, reached her arms around his neck, and settled onto his back.

His back was much stronger than when they were younger.

Back then, she always felt like she might fall off his back.

But now, his broad back provided her with a sense of security.

In the blink of an eye, he had truly grown into the strong man he had always dreamed of becoming when they were kids.
