When Her Death Couldn't Break Him (Cecilia and Nathaniel) novel Chapter 1975

Chapter 1975 His Parents Had Passed
“I already paid the hospital fees. If you leave now, they won't refund it,” Denise said, her voice tight with emotion as she looked at her parents. Their hair had turned almost completely gray, and their bodies seemed weaker every time she saw them.

The money she made barely covered the basics, just enough to keep them in the hospital and pay for things like chemotherapy.

Magnus had asked her earlier why she looked so down. It was because every time she came to see her parents, she was filled with guilt. No matter how hard she worked, she still couldn't earn enough to truly take care of them.

After chatting for a bit, Denise excused herself, afraid that her heavy emotions would affect her parents.

Magnus was waiting in the corridor outside. He had caught snippets of her conversation and hadn't expected to see a family struggling so much in this day and age.

And yet, even with their hardship, her parents hadn't given up on life.

When Denise came out, Magnus walked with her. Letting out a sigh, he said, “Lately I've been thinking I'm the most miserable guy in the world. But after seeing you and your family, I realize I've got it easy.”

Denise forced a smile. “Don't dwell on it. Everyone has their own life to live, right?”

Magnus nodded. “You've been working so hard. Let me treat you to a big meal today.”

“No need for that. I'm fine with something simple,” Denise replied. She was used to living frugally.

“No way,” Magnus said firmly. “It's my money, and I'm spending it.”

“But don't you need to save up to take care of your family?” she asked, confused.

“My parents are gone. There's no one left for me to take care of,” Magnus said, almost casually.

Hearing that, Denise looked over at him with sympathy in her eyes. “I'm sorry.”

“Why are you sorry?” he asked.

“I didn't know your parents had passed.”

As she thought about it, Denise realized that in a way, she was luckier than Magnus. At least her parents were still here, still able to be with her. Even in tough times, having family by one's side made all the difference.
