When I Met You novel Chapter 4

When Edward heard Vanessa’s name, he immediately produced his phone and charged it in his car while snatching away Susan’s phone to call Vanessa back.

Susan could only wait for Edward to finish his call. She didn’t dare to get off the car and she also didn’t have the courage to study the changes in Edward’s expression. She pretended that nothing was bothering her by turning on the radio and listening to some songs.

When Edward finally returned, he just said to Susan, “I have asked the driver to send you home. I have some matters to attend to.”

“My husband, you don’t need to specially escort me home, you know. You can just go look for any woman you like, you know that I don’t care about that.” Susan said very nonchalantly.

“Coincidentally, I can go take a stroll and have fun by myself.”

As she said that, Susan voluntarily got off his car and waved at him, “Bye, my husband.”

With her high-heels clicking underneath, she headed to an exit nearby.

Edward gaped at Susan’s shrinking back with his depthless gaze for some time before returning to his car and switching on his phone. He saw that there were more than a dozen missed calls which had the same phone number, and only then did he start the engine of his car and left the underground garage.

Susan didn’t hang out anywhere, instead she immediately hailed a taxi to head to the First Hospital. She headed straight to the intensive care unit and through a glass window separating the ward and the visitor’s area, she saw an elderly woman who had ashen hair and was seemingly sleeping soundly.

“Don’t you want to go in?”

A female voice suddenly broke the silence after Susan had been standing there for some time.

Susan turned around and saw that this voice belonged to her good friend, Tina, who was a paediatrician.

“No thanks. What good can going in do? She has been like that for a long, long time.”

Tina produced a bitter smile while handing a sweet to Susan. She comforted Susan, “You must keep in mind that a person who has a ninety-eight percent brain necrosis yet can still continue to live with the remaining two percent of her brain still active and growing can be considered a miracle in the medical industry.”
