When Love Is a Lie (Whitney and Damian) novel Chapter 72

Noel was wearing a casual gray suit, and his hair was slicked back neatly. He looked regal and gorgeous.

Everyone watched as he walked quickly toward Elijah.

"Grandpa, I'm sorry for being late. I had to do some work earlier."

Elijah smiled kindly and said, "Work is important. It's fine to be a little late. Just remember to take care of yourself."

Noel nodded. He then greeted respectfully, "Hello, Dad, Mom."

"Sit down. Don't keep everyone waiting," Beckham said sternly as he gestured for Noel to sit down.

Everyone took their seats as well.

The older members of the family sat closer to Elijah, while the younger ones were seated a little further.

Damian sat down beside Whitney. He looked up and saw Rachel, who was sitting diagonally across from them. Her eyes were slightly lowered as she ate the food intently.

He found it unlikely that Rachel hadn't noticed him staring. However, she offered him no reaction.

"Damian, what are you looking at?" Helena asked innocently after taking a bite of the food.

Helena had noticed how Damian had been staring at Rachel. He wasn't even attempting to put up a front.

She turned to Whitney, who was eating as though nothing had happened. She wasn't even paying attention to the man beside her.

Helena could no longer stand it, so she said, "The roast turkey dish that Whitney likes is a little far."

Damian's expression remained unchanged as he asked the maid to move the dish from in front of Rachel to an area closer to Whitney.

Whitney glanced at him, as though mocking him for the unnecessary action.

"Damian, you're being too nice to others. Some people just don't know how to appreciate it," Jenny said and clicked her tongue in disapproval.

Damian glanced at Jenny and pretended that he didn't understand what she was getting at. "Whitney isn't 'others.' She's going to be your sister-in-law soon. If I don't treat her well, then who should I be treating well instead?"

Rachel's grip tightened around her fork as her face turned pale.

When Jenny thought about how Whitney had mocked her in the garden, she felt rage spark within her.

"That might not be the case. Some people want other people's food without finishing their own portion."

Jenny had unintentionally raised her voice, so she attracted strange stares from everyone in the room.

"Who wants other people's food?" Beckham asked.

Anxiety took over Jenny. She hadn't expected to draw Beckham's attention.
