When Love Is a Lie (Whitney and Damian) novel Chapter 74

Jenny was just about to get into her red sports car when she saw Whitney strolling around in the garden.

Not only was Damian protecting her, but Noel helped to keep her lie intact as well.

She even insisted that she had nothing to do with the man in the club. Who did she think she was fooling?

Jenny followed her indignantly, intending to face off against her once more.

When Whitney walked in, Jenny was struck with a plan. She went up and locked the door from the outside.

The gardeners had left the key in the keyhole for convenience's sake.

Jenny turned the key in the lock before throwing it into a nearby bush.

"Who's outside? There's someone in here." Whitney walked to the door and pulled on it. It did not give.

When she heard the noise inside, Jenny raised an eyebrow and grinned victoriously. She turned around, feeling satisfied.

Whitney yanked on the door again and said, "There's someone inside. Don't lock the door!"

She thought one of the gardeners had locked the door without knowing of her presence. Perhaps they'd left too hurriedly and missed her screams for help.

"If you put in any more force, you'll break the doorknob," came Noel's voice from behind.

Whitney was startled. She stopped and looked at him in surprise. "Why are you here?"

She'd seen him go to the front lawn. Why was he in the greenhouse?

"This is the Howard residence. Aren't I allowed to go wherever I wish?"

He then walked through the rows of shelves and admired the flowers.

The upper part of the greenhouse was fitted with glass panes to preserve heat, so that the fragile flowers wouldn't be frozen. The heaters were also on full blast.

Although Whitney was only wearing a blouse and a skirt, she could feel herself starting to sweat.

Upon observing Noel's unflustered demeanor and how he continued to admire the flowers, Whitney asked, "Aren't you nervous? If someone finds the two of us here alone, we'll have a hard time explaining ourselves."

Two young people of the opposite genders locked together was bound to inspire much discourse.

"Are you afraid of that?" Noel only turned back to look at her after a few moments.

"Aren't you?" Whitney shot back. She then stated seriously, "I don't want others to continue misunderstanding the nature of our relationship."
