Whitney heard a familiar voice. She looked over and saw Noel approaching, dressed in a smoky gray trench coat and a dark navy turtleneck sweater, exuding an air of casual sophistication.
"Noel's dining here too? That's quite the coincidence," Damian remarked, glancing between Whitney and Noel, his tone loaded with hidden meaning.
Noel lowered his gaze to see Damian gripping Whitney's arm. His words took on a teasing edge as he replied, "I'm just here for a business event. It's already so close to the big day, and you two seem closer than ever. If I remember correctly, this is the first time you've been this open about it."
Damian smiled warmly. "Your memory serves you well, Noel. Whitney will soon be my wife, so of course, I need to show her affection everywhere."
Noel raised an eyebrow, shifting his gaze back to Whitney. He said, "Oh, looks like Ms. Spencer is about to marry her true love."
True love…
Those two words were laced with irony.
Whitney had gone through so much to escape from the Spencer residence, and Noel had even helped her find a place to stay.
And to make matters worse, she had confidently told him that Damian had agreed to call off the engagement and that her success was inevitable.
And now?
Barely a day had passed, and here she was, standing next to Damian again.
Even she found herself pathetic. How could she blame Noel for his mocking tone?
Whitney lowered her gaze, her voice soft. "Noel, please don't joke around."
She heard Noel give a barely audible chuckle.
"I won't intrude any longer. I'll be on my way," Noel said, a faint smirk playing on his lips.
"Take care, Noel," Damian replied, his tone polite but dismissive.
Noel turned, striding toward a sleek black sedan parked by the curb. The chauffeur standing by the car opened the door for him as he approached.
Soon, the car drove off, melting into the night.
"Have you looked enough?" Damian's dark voice pulled her back, and Whitney turned to face his icy gaze.
"Who I look at is none of your concern," she replied, her tone flat.
Damian's grip tightened on her wrist as he said, "None of my concern?Don't forget your father's words. This isn't just about me anymore. If you upset him, your mother's treatment might…"
He didn't finish, but his point was clear.
Whitney's lips pressed into a thin line, her gaze brimming with a loathing she'd never felt before.
Why hadn't she seen before how shameless Damian truly was?
Whitney said coldly, "Don't worry about reminding me, I'll keep the engagement, but I'm not moving back to your villa."
Damian narrowed his eyes, reluctant to agree.
