Avery’s bold and direct words left both Elissa and me in shock. Once I recovered, fearing that Skylar might lash out at Avery, I quickly pulled her behind

Skylar gritted her teeth and glared at Avery, “Are you sure you can afford it? This dress costs over 2.7 million dollars!” 

“Only 2.7 million dollars. You must be poor, right? Avery remarked, looking genuinely puzzled. “Why else would you keep harping on about a mere 2.7. million dollars?”
