The two men nearly wet themselves in terror.

Sean’s fiancée was the little princess of the Tempest family—the prodigy scientist everyone in Vesperia knew about. Of course, these two kidnappers had heard the rumors as well.

They’d doubted Claire’s story at first, but now, seeing Sean in person, they realized with bone-deep dread that they had kidnapped the absolute last person they should have touched.

“I told you,” Claire said coolly, “you should’ve turned yourselves in.”

The men knew they were finished. They didn’t even bother to resist, simply letting Claire go.

As soon as she stepped out of the car, Sean swept her into his arms, holding her tight.

“Don’t be afraid,” he murmured.

Claire hugged him back. “With you here, I’m not.”

After she’d been kidnapped in Cresthaven the last time, Sean had commissioned a custom wristwatch with a built-in GPS tracker just for her. That was how he’d managed to show up right on time.

Sean narrowed his eyes at the kidnappers. “Who sent you to take my fiancée?”

At this point, the two men had nothing left to hide. They confessed everything.

“Marina? Who’s that?” Claire asked, baffled.

Sean shook his head. “Never heard of her. Who is she?”

The kidnappers stared at Sean and Claire as if they’d grown a second head.

“Marina’s a superstar,” one finally stammered. “She’s got eighty million followers online, everyone knows her. She’s supposedly dating the CEO of the Tempest Group. She hired us to kidnap Miss Tempest because she thinks Miss Tempest is trying to steal her boyfriend. She told us to ruin Miss Tempest and take… compromising photos…”

Claire: “???”

At once, Orion’s tone softened with relief. “Where are you? I’ll come get you myself.”

Sean cut in. “No need. I’ll bring Claire to you. And there’s something we need to discuss.”

When Claire and Sean walked in, Mr. Tempest and Orion were already there—and so was Marina.

Marina’s endorsement deal for the new VR headset was about to be finalized. Both sides were just about to sign the contract when Claire called to report she’d been kidnapped.

The contract signing was put on hold immediately.
