Sherilyn glanced at Francis, her voice soft but firm, "So... I'm really sorry, but there's no way I can help you."
"I understand."
Compared to Gilbert, Francis was more restrained.
He nodded with a slight smile, "Rebecca is lucky to have a friend like you. And me..."
His words took a turn, and the smile turned bittersweet.
"I'm her nightmare! If I could, I wish she had never come into my room that night..."
His voice was deep and filled with regret as he explained that night's events to Sherilyn.
"You mean..."
Sherilyn frowned, piecing it all together.
"Bro, you were drugged that night?"
"Yes." Francis couldn't bring himself to look at his sister, closing his eyes and nodding. His handsome face was full of embarrassment.
"Even so, I truly owe Rebecca an apology... I've tried to reach out to her, but I heard she got married..."
So, even if he wanted to make amends, it was too late.
If only Eddy had decided to reject Rebecca White right after the incident, maybe things would be different now.
But there are no ifs in life.
Sherilyn sighed softly, "Bro, I've got it... I'll find a chance to talk to Rebecca, but whether she accepts it or not, that's up to her."
"I understand."
Francis nodded, "Anyway, I really appreciate you doing this."
With that, he stood up.
"It's getting late, I should be going..."
He glanced at his sister, "You and Gilbert, try to get some rest, okay?"
"Sure."
Sherilyn and Gilbert both stood up, escorting Francis out. "Take care, bro..."
"Head back in."
The two stood at the door, watching as Francis drove away, one looking down, the other gazing up, before their eyes met.
Gilbert wrapped his arm around Sherilyn, heading back inside.
