Sherilyn blinked in surprise, staring at Caroline with a puzzled expression.
"How old are you? I mean, you and my brother were together for over a decade, and now you're acting all flustered over a kiss? Are you really that innocent?"
The more she thought about it, the more ridiculous it seemed.
"And besides, it was me kissing my boyfriend, not yours. What's so shameless about that?"
Her gaze sharpened as she looked at Caroline.
"And you, interrupting others without even a hint of an apology... that's just plain rude."
"You..."
Caroline was speechless, struggling to find a comeback.
Her face flushed with irritation, she sneered, "You're really full of yourself right now, aren't you?"
Sherilyn couldn't be bothered with the bickering. "Out of my way, please."
She stepped forward, gently moving Caroline's wheelchair aside while holding her dress, ready to leave.
"Sherilyn!"
With limited mobility, Caroline could only sit there, helpless.
Taking the opportunity, she grabbed Sherilyn's wrist and flashed a sinister smile, "Yeah, enjoy your time. It won't last long!"
She let go of Sherilyn and wheeled herself away, leaving Sherilyn standing there, slightly dazed.
What did she mean by that?
But there was no time to ponder because Gilbert returned with Jenna.
"Mommy!"
Jenna leaped from Gilbert's arms and ran to Sherilyn.
"Jenna!"
Sherilyn laughed, bending down to scoop up her daughter.
"Wow!"
Jenna's big eyes sparkled, "Mommy, you look so pretty!"
"Really?" Sherilyn pressed her cheek against her daughter's. "Does Jenna like Mommy's dress?"
"Uh-huh, love it!"
Gilbert was stunned, "She really said that?"
He shook his head, squeezing her hand reassuringly. "There's no need to be bothered by baseless comments. She's leaving for Quinland soon."
"Quinland?" Sherilyn recalled, "Did she agree to it?"
"Yeah," Gilbert nodded. "Doesn't she want to walk again?"
"Did she tell you that?" Sherilyn eyed him suspiciously, narrowing her eyes. "Did you two talk today?"
"...No," Gilbert chuckled, surprised, "My brother mentioned it..."
He pulled her into a hug, "What are you thinking? I've been with you and Jenna all day, not a moment away. When would I have talked to her?"
Sherilyn thought about it and realized he was right.
"You little jealous thing!"
Was she really upset over him even talking to another woman?
But Gilbert found it endearing, thoroughly enjoying her possessiveness.
With a playful smile, he wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her closer, "So, is it... safe now?"
