"Hello?"
Sherilyn barely got a word out before realizing the line was dead.
She glanced at her phone, a bit bewildered... did he just hang up without a word?
Really?
Sherilyn chuckled helplessly and instructed Naomi, "Wait here, okay? I'm going to say hi to Blake."
"Alright."
When Sherilyn explained to Blake that Gilbert was coming, he naturally didn't hold her back.
"You'd better hurry, don't keep Mr. Harrison waiting."
"Thanks, Blake."
Just as she turned to leave, her phone rang again.
Sherilyn answered quickly, "Are you here?"
"Yeah," Gilbert replied, amusement in his voice. "I'm by the west gate. Should I come in, or will you come out?"
"You wait there, I'm coming out," she insisted.
No way was she letting him come into the party with all those people around. He'd be swarmed in no time.
She hung up and gathered her dress, heading out quickly towards the west gate.
This part of the venue was quieter, closer to the parking lot exit.
Sherilyn jogged ahead, Candida taking long strides to keep up, with Naomi trailing behind.
As soon as she stepped out the west gate, Sherilyn stopped, slightly out of breath.
She lifted her gaze and spotted Gilbert leaning casually against his car.
The row of streetlights cast a glow from behind him, softening his usually sharp features.
Gilbert watched her closely, his eyes twinkling with an affectionate smile.
"Sherilyn!" he called out, opening his arms wide.
Something sparked inside Sherilyn, and before her brain could catch up, her body had already reacted...
She broke into a run towards him.
"Sherilyn!"
Gilbert definitely noticed.
With eyes shut, his brows lifted slightly, arms tightening as if he wanted to merge her into himself.
He was ecstatic, nearly delirious with joy!
At this moment, no amount of lingering kisses could satisfy him.
Reluctantly, Gilbert pulled back, still holding her close, grinning widely, "Let's get in the car! Let's go home!"
Without Sherilyn having to take a single step, he carried her to the car, cradling her in his lap.
As if that wasn't enough, he intertwined their fingers, holding her hand tightly.
Mindful of the driver, Gilbert was restrained, occasionally bending down to plant a gentle kiss on her forehead.
He whispered near her ear, "Don't worry, we'll be there soon..."
Sherilyn's cheeks flushed, unable to move from his embrace, she could only protest with her eyes.
"I'm not the one who's in a rush."
"Right, you're not rushing," Gilbert replied, chuckling, "It's me. I'm the one who's rushing. I'm very impatient!"
