Gilbert glanced at Sherilyn and asked, "How about this? Can you finish it?"
Sherilyn frowned slightly, "There's still quite a bit left."
"Just start eating," Gilbert said, handing the plate back to her. "It's not much. Whatever you can't finish, I'll eat."
Sherilyn didn't reply, instead, she looked down and began eating slowly.
"Oh, by the way," Gilbert said as he added more mashed potatoes to her plate, "I'll be heading to Whispering Pines Villas later."
Whispering Pines Villas?
Sherilyn perked up at the mention, looking at him quizzically, "What for?"
Could it be Caroline causing trouble again?
"Don't worry," Gilbert assured her, sensing her concern. "I'm just going to pick up James. My brother's heading to Quinland tonight."
He didn't mention Caroline, but Sherilyn understood the implication.
"Is he taking her there?"
"Yes." Gilbert nodded and turned to their daughter, Jenna, adding some green beans to her plate.
"He'll be there for about a week. With Grandma away, the house is just full of staff, and it doesn't feel right. Bringing James here will give him some company with Jenna around."
"That makes sense," Sherilyn agreed, nodding her approval.
"Hey, Sherilyn," Gilbert hesitated for a moment, choosing his words carefully, "Would you like to come with me?"
"Me?" Sherilyn was taken aback.
"Yes," Gilbert affirmed, his tone serious.
"Caroline's going to Minnesota for her leg treatment. If everything goes well, she'll be gone for two to three years, maybe longer."
