Whispers Turn to Whimpers: Could He Ever Change? novel Chapter 1214

“Ha! Ha-ha...”

Sherilyn froze for a moment, then threw her head back in laughter. Her eyes shimmered with unshed tears.

She stared at him and shot back, “You think I’m afraid? That I care if it hurts? Let it hurt then! I hope it tears me apart, leaves me in pieces! Hurt me so badly you won’t ever look back, so you can just walk away! Then I’ll finally be free!”

With that, she flung her arm and ran out of the room.

“Sherilyn!”

“Mr. Harrison!”

The nurse hurried after him. “Sir, you should come take a look at Ms. Bennett—she’s shaking terribly!”

Gilbert glanced back. Caroline had rolled her eyes back in her head; she looked terrible.

He forced himself to stay calm. “Call the doctor. She needs a sedative.”

“Right away, sir!”

Early the next morning.

Blue Haven, South Wing.

For once, Jenna was surprised to see her dad at breakfast.

Sherilyn was caught off guard too. She remembered hearing him leave in the middle of the night. He’d been to the hospital and come back already?

He didn’t seem to mind running himself ragged.

Not that she cared—he wasn’t doing it for her.

“Daddy, hug!”

Jenna snuggled into his lap, delighted to have breakfast with her father. “I want to sit with Daddy.”

“Of course.”

Gilbert smiled and agreed, sneaking glances at Sherilyn now and then.

After last night, she hadn’t argued with him anymore; she’d acted just as she had the days before.

Still, Gilbert couldn’t shake the feeling that something between them had shifted for the worse.

He wanted to fix things, but had no idea how. All he could do was focus on his daughter in his arms.

Sherilyn sat quietly, keeping out of their way.

As she ate, her phone buzzed.

Rebecca White.
