Whispers Turn to Whimpers: Could He Ever Change? novel Chapter 1215

“I think I just…”

Rebecca White’s face was a mix of shock and disbelief. “Sherilyn, I think I just saw Eddy.”

“Him?” Sherilyn’s brows shot up. “What would he be doing here? Are you sure you didn’t mistake someone else for him?”

“No way.” Rebecca’s forehead creased in a familiar frown. “I’ve known him for eight years. I could recognize him from just his silhouette, even from the back of his head. There’s no way I’d get it wrong.”

“Which way did he go?”

Sherilyn pointed down the corridor.

“That way!”

“Don’t stress about it.” Sherilyn took Rebecca’s arm and steered her along, talking as they walked. “If you think you saw him, let’s go check. If it’s not him, we’ll know soon enough. Come on!”

They headed toward the clinic’s restrooms.

At this hour, the corridor was completely empty—no sign of life anywhere. They couldn’t exactly barge into the restroom to check, either.

“Maybe we should—”

“Sherilyn!” Before Sherilyn could finish, Rebecca suddenly gripped her arm tighter, eyes locked ahead.

“It’s him!”

Sherilyn saw him too. Just outside the restroom, Eddy stepped out, pausing momentarily.

Rebecca let go and walked straight toward him.

“Rebecca?” Eddy’s surprise was obvious; he’d seen her too. “What are you…?”

For a moment, they just stared at each other. Rebecca stopped right in front of him, her expression complicated.

“You’re wondering what I’m doing here?” She let out a bitter laugh. “Honestly, that’s what I want to ask you. What are you doing here, Eddy?”

“I…” Eddy’s voice faltered, words failing him.

Rebecca’s gaze dropped to his arm.

He wore a crisp white shirt, his suit jacket folded over his left elbow. The right sleeve was rolled up, exposing his forearm. Two-thirds of it was tightly wrapped in medical gauze—stark, sterile white against his skin.

“You’re hurt? What happened?”
