Gilbert came back with a tray of food, and instead of sitting on the couch, he chose to perch on the armrest of Sherilyn's sofa.
The reason was pretty solid, "I'm holding this plate for you, so you can eat more comfortably."
Sherilyn couldn't be bothered to call him out on his obvious play for closeness. She picked up a piece of grilled salmon and stuffed it into her mouth, her cheeks puffing out adorably as she chewed.
Adorable, indeed.
Gilbert watched her for a moment, charmed, before he cautiously asked, "Have you seen Edgar around?"
Sherilyn paused, a look of confusion crossing her face, "No, is he here too?"
"Yeah." Gilbert even pointed in a direction for her, "Over there, see him?"
"Oh." Sherilyn nodded, her expression unchanged.
Gilbert pulled a grimace, "And the girl with him, you see her?"
Sherilyn gave him a sideways glance, "Yeah, I see her. What about her?"
Was it possible that he recognized Yuna as the girl involved in her kidnapping that day?
Clearly, he hadn't.
"The girl's last name is Martin." Gilbert squinted slightly, a hint of depth and darkness in his gaze. "Can't quite remember her first name."
Mainly because he couldn't be bothered to remember.
"Her father's a physics professor and dean at the university, and her mother runs a chain of grocery stores. A well-educated family with a modest wealth, quite a match for Edgar in terms of social standing."
Sherilyn smiled slightly, "So it seems."
He knew quite a lot.
Such a well-matched couple, indeed!
Back in the day, when Farley Martin met her mother Tania, Farley was just a poor college student facing the threat of dropping out.
Tania, though a woman, had a knack for business.
Back then, she ran a small but profitable convenience store.
The two fell in love at first sight, and Tania used the store's earnings to support Farley's education.
