“Mommy?”
Jenna snuggled closer into Sherilyn’s embrace, her eyelids growing heavier by the minute, “Have Mr. Johnson and everyone finished dinner yet?”
“Not yet, sweetheart.”
Sherilyn glanced outside, not wanting to disappoint her little girl.
“Mr. Johnson is still enjoying his wine, taking his time with the meal.”
“Oh…” Jenna’s eyelids drooped further, “But Mr. Johnson will come, right?”
“Are you getting sleepy, Jenna?”
Sherilyn dodged the question, “Why don't you take a little nap? If Mr. Johnson comes, Mommy will wake you up.”
“Okay.” Jenna couldn’t resist the pull of sleep any longer and burrowed deeper into her mom’s arms, “You have to remember to wake me, Mommy.”
“I will.”
Slowly, Jenna drifted off to sleep. Sherilyn carried her to her room, gently tucking her into bed.
Checking the time, it was already past 8:30 PM.
Sherilyn felt a twinge of unease. Something wasn’t right…
If Gilbert had made it back to Sunhaven, knowing him, he would have gotten in touch with her by now.
…
At 10 PM, Sunhaven International Airport.
Rushing through the VIP exit, Gilbert, accompanied by Caroline, hurried out, with Allen Abel close behind.
Phone in hand, he spoke to Charles, “You’re in the garage? Alright, we’re on our way.”
Glancing at Caroline, he said, “Let’s head to the garage.”
Caroline looked exhausted but nodded in agreement, “Okay.”
Once they reached the garage and met up with Charles, Gilbert checked his watch, “How many cars did we bring?”
“Two.”
“Okay.” Gilbert nodded, then instructed Charles, “You take Caroline to the Johnsons’. Grandma and my brother are waiting for them.”
“Yes, Mr. Gilbert.”
“Gilbert?” Caroline looked puzzled, “Aren’t you coming with me?”
Gilbert shook his head, “I’ve got another matter to attend to.”
“What could possibly be more important…”
