Theo said these words with great confidence. Based on his many years of experience in charming women, no one could resist such a perfectly timed offer of rescue.

But Anathea only glanced at him and asked with a smile, What’s wrong? Are you left behind too, Mr. Harrington?

Of course not!Theo quickly retorted.

Then what are you doing here?

There was caution in Anathea’s eyes. She didn’t think for a moment that Theo was acting out of pure kindness. Perhaps it was because of their previous encounters, but her impression of him had never been particularly favorable.

Noticing the wariness in her gaze, Theo frowned in displeasure. Anathea, do you really think so little of me?

Anathea stayed silent, which was as good as agreement.

Theo exhaled deeply, not willing to give up just yet. What kind of person am I in your eyes?

Other women viewed him as charming and generous. For some reason, he suddenly felt curious about how Anathea saw him.

Anathea’s face remained calm. Someone selfish. You do whatever you want without caring who gets hurt.

Theo scoffed and pressed his tongue against his molars. Anathea looked gentle enough. Who would’ve thought she had such a sharp tongue? He shouldn’t have asked at all.

But instead of leaving, Theo stood before her and looked at her.

He wasn’t sure why he suddenly had the urge to ask Anathea to dance. Maybe because she was sitting alone in the empty lounge, appearing indifferent, yet for some reason, he thought she must be feeling lonely.

It was said that only the squeaky wheel would get the grease, but Anathea acted as if she didn’t care, like she was telling everyone she was fine being alone.

And that very display of indifference made Theo feel oddly moved. It reminded him of his own childhood.

While his younger brother cried and clung to their mother for affection, he’d stood silently on the sidelines. Just because he hadn’t thrown a tantrum, he’d been met with indifference.

He, too, longed for his parentsattention and affection. But all he ever got was a dismissive, Theo, you’re such a good boy.

Now, he saw that the compliment was complete nonsense. It was just lofty praise from the one doing the ignoringmeant to justify their own bias and fool themselves into thinking they were being fair to the one being ignored.

When Anathea kindly stepped out of the way for Gregory and Natalie, Theo hadn’t even realized that he’d clenched his fists.

His mind was in turmoil. He fell silent for a moment, staring at Anathea’s icy expression before saying, Fine, I’ll be honest. I got left behind, so I’m here to keep you company.

Anathea raised an eyebrow. The great heir of the Harrington family got left behind?

Aman like Theo, who was known for his charm, should have women flocking to him with just the flick of a finger.

But Theo nodded. Yeah.

His expression was almost pitiable, like a stray dog abandoned on the street. Who says an heir can’t be left behind? Here I am.

Anathea asked, Where’s Mr. Miller? He’s your friend, isn’t he?

Him? Am I supposed to push his wheelchair out onto the dance floor? I’m afraid I’ll end up getting run over by it.Theo shook his head at the thought.

Anathea smiled.

Come on, be a good sport and help me out, okay?Theo asked awkwardly, looking like someone who wanted to dance but felt too embarrassed to ask directly and had to begrudgingly give in.
