As Gregory’s closest subordinates, the lawyers there were well acquainted with his usual methods, so their confusion and shock were only natural.
“Mr. Sinclair’s behavior tonight is so strange.”
“Yeah, I’ve never seen him act like this before.”
“He’s always been so strict. And even with so many of us here, he voluntarily increased the offer and handed over two million dollars without a second thought.”
It was completely out of character.
Hearing their murmurs, Martin cleared his throat to cut them off. “Mr.Sinclair must have his own personal reasons for doing this.”
“Personal reasons?” The lawyers exchanged confused looks, unsure of what Martin meant. They looked to him for clarification. But Martin just put on a professional smile.
Having worked alongside Gregory for eight years since he’d graduated, he understood Gregory’s way of doing things in a way others might not.
The truth was, Gregory hadn’t just handed out two million dollars. He was using that money to get closer to Anathea. Tonight, Gregory undoubtedly disappointed Anathea because of the mix–up at Drunk Elysium.
Even though Anathea hadn’t shown any sign of fury in front of so many people, as an observer, Martin could still tell that she clearly wanted to avoid Gregory.
She wasn’t someone who lost her temper easily, but once she was hurt, it was hard for her to move past it.
Gregory had deliberately thrown out the two million dollars to make Anathea’s feelings shift from disappointment to gratitude –and even guilt.
It was a ruthless tactic, one he would use against any competitor. Now, he was using it on Anathea, ensuring she couldn’t resist.
Sometimes, Martin couldn’t help but wonder if it was a blessing or a curse for Anathea that Gregory had fallen for her.
But there was little he could do except stick to his own responsibilities. He responded to the curious lawyers, “I’d advise you all not to indulge your curiosity about Mr. Sinclair’s personal matters. If you do…”
The rest went unspoken, but it was clear the lawyers understood. After all, they were all sharp professionals. They nodded quickly.
“Well then, we’ll be going now,” one of them said.
“Safe travels,” Martin replied.
The moment the lawyers were gone, Martin’s phone rang. It was Gregory.
Martin immediately answered. “Yes, Mr. Sinclair?”
“Take care of the two men from earlier.” Gregory’s low voice came through, carefully muffled so as not to disturb Anathea.
“Take care of them?” Martin paused for a moment, as if something had clicked in his mind.
Gregory’s voice remained calm but chillingly emotionless. “Anyone who dares to mess with my woman and extor dollars from me should pay the price.”
