chapter 298
As soon as Cyrus finished speaking, Gregory threw off the covers and rushed downstairs.
It wasn’t until he saw Anathea at the stove, calmly stirring a pot of soup, that he finally let out a breath of relief.
“Morning.” Anathea turned around and looked at him, then let out a chuckle. “What happened? Why are your slippers on the wrong feet?”
Gregory snapped out of it. Ignoring the slippers, he crossed the kitchen in a few strides and pulled her into his arms. “Thank God
Thank God she was still here.
“What?” Anathea blinked at him.
“Nothing.” Gregory shook his head and looked down at the soup. “Smells amazing.”
“Then go freshen up and come eat.” Anathea gave his arm á light push.
He nodded and headed back upstairs.
Xander had woken up too. He came bouncing to Anathea’s side and said, “Good morning, Mom!”
“Morning.” Anathea ruffled his hair. “Are you done washing up?”
“Yeah!” Xander nodded proudly. “I got dressed and washed up by myself! I didn’t need Jenny’s help at all!”
“Really? That’s impressive.” Anathea smiled.
Hearing Anathea’s praise, Xander was even happier than when he was complimented at the Sinclair residence. “Mom, I’ll help you with the oatmeal.”
“Wow, Mr. Xander is offering to help.” Jenny smiled. “It seems like he’s changed a lot after getting sick. He’s definitely getting closer to you now, Mrs. Sinclair. That’s good news.”
She was genuinely happy for Anathea. After all, she’d always seen the meticulous care Anathea gave to Xander over the years. However, Xander had never been particularly close to Anathea, and Gregory had always been focused on his work, often overlooking Anathea’s feelings.
But things were different now. Last night, Jenny had peeked downstairs and seen Anathea and Gregory having dinner together. It looked like something straight out of a happy family portrait.
And now even Xander was clinging to Anathea. Maybe this really was the start of something better.
Anathea watched Jenny’s joyful expression, but her own face remained unchanged. She was neither happy nor unhappy, just neutral.
After breakfast, Gregory kissed Anathea on the forehead before heading to work. Xander gave her a peck on the cheek before leaving for school.
Anathea watched the father and son get into separate cars and drive off in different directions. Then she picked up her own car keys.
“Mrs. Sinclair, are you heading to work too?” Jenny asked.
“Yeah,” Anathea replied casually.
“But…” A flicker of confusion crossed Jenny’s eyes. She could’ve sworn she heard Anathea on the phone t., norning saying she’d taken the day off. Had she misheard it?
She decided not to press it.
