Who gave you the right to speak out of turn, you punk?Holden struck the table and shot to his feet. How dare you talk down to your mother over a mere woman?

My wife isn’t just a mere woman,Gregory countered icily. And saw the need to clarify matters.

With that, he cast a long, hard look at Eleanor. My wife hasn’t visited you all this time because when she dropped by to see you on multiple occasions in the past, you refused to entertain her. Isn’t that right?

Eleanor made no reply. After all, that was the truth.

When Anathea and Gregory first got married, Anathea had indeed swung by the Sinclair residence to visit Eleanor.

But Eleanor never cared to waste any time on a woman like Anathea, so she had the maids tell Anathea to leave. She’d done it in front of the Sinclairsrelatives a few times too.

Eleanor had been certain Anathea wouldn’t reveal that she was married to Gregory back then. And she’d been sure that Gregory couldn’t care less about how Anathea was treated during this family luncheon.

Assured by these presumptions, Eleanor had decided to needle and humiliate Anathea, only for her plans to backfire on her. More importantly, she’d never expected Gregory to be so protective of Anathea.

Now that Gregory has brought it up, I rememberhis wife did show up at the Sinclair residence a few times in the past, but Eleanor told the maids to lie and say she wasn’t home so that Gregory’s wife would leave.

Oh, right! I thought it was strange and wondered which young lady had come by the house. I didn’t know she was Gregory’s wife!

In other words, Eleanor never liked her daughterinlaw to begin with. Why would she suddenly want the young lady to visit

her?

Beats me.

I think they should just leave each other well enough alone. There’s no point in stirring up such strife.

Eleanor’s expression had yet to shift, but Holden was already bristling. He pointed at the relatives whispering among themselves and barked, That’s enough! Don’t you know when to shut up? Why don’t all of you just stuff your mouths with food?

I

The relatives shuddered when they met Holden’s menacing gaze, but they secretly wondered how someone who used to be so ruthless had become such a doting, overprotective husband. They couldn’t figure it out, so they held their tongues.

Lennox took in the farce before him, his face gradually darkening as he interjected grimly, Why are you lashing out over something so trivial? What, are you going to blow off the roof next?

Holden gulped and lowered his head. I didn’t mean to get carried away, Dad.

Lennox was far from pleased. Your temper has been slipping more and more in the recent years. Maybe you ought to see a doctor about this one of these days. See if there’s anything wrong with you.

This is all my fault,Eleanor quickly interjected when she saw how things were panning out.

I didn’t think this would happen just because I said a few words without discretion. It’s been too long since we gathered as a family, and I was only hoping we’d get to dine happily together. The last thing I wanted was to cause any friction in the family. I’m sorry, Lennox.

Lennox snorted and ignored her.

Eleanor then glanced at Anathea and flashed her a warm smile. If you don’t like any of these dishes, Anathea, what would you like to have instead? Just tell me and I’ll have the chef whip it up for you-
