Chapter 330
Gregory took a deep breath and started explaining. “Annie, L. I didn’t mean… what I said. I just…”

He just couldn’t stand it. He couldn’t stand having his flaws brought up again and again. Each time, it reopened his wounds and made him question his worth.
The truth was, he genuinely wanted to love Anathea like a normal person.
When he fought with Holden earlier, he hadn’t really thought it through. He’d just wanted to keep the promise he made to Anathea.
Since she didn’t want to reveal the pregnancy, he’d been determined to protect that secret, even if it meant offending the entire Sinclair family.
If Lennox insisted on calling her a jinx, then so be it. Gregory was nothing but a fish or the brink of death in a barren desert- Anathea was the only thing he needed, jinx or not.
But he had to admit that he had a small, selfish desire in his heart. When he heard Anathea admit in front of everyone that she was carrying his child, he felt indescribable joy.
That was only one selfish desire, but Theo had made it worse, leading to a mess that now seemed impossible to fix, even though Gregory had never meant any of it.
So, he desperately wanted to explain it all to Anathea.
“What did you say? I didn’t hear anything,” Anathea said, her lips curving faintly.
Gregory froze, staring at her calm expression under the sunlight.
Her expression showed no hint of questioning, anger, or even sadness. She’d pulled herself out of that whirlpool, leaving him there alone, in chaos and ruin.
She was so detached and composed it made him feel ashamed of himself.
Gregory opened his mouth, then eventually closed it again as he shook his head. “Nothing.”
Anathea noticed he was holding back, but she said nothing.
She stepped over the threshold into Brisa’s courtyard and walked inside.
Brisa and Lennox had gotten into a political marriage alliance when they were young. There wasn’t much emotional foundation to their relationship, and Lennox had never been the faithful type. He’d had so many mistresses that they’d lost count.
However, Brisa had a strong family background of her own, along with two sons and a daughter, so none of those women dared challenge her position as Lennox’s official wife.
Brisa didn’t care either. No matter what Lennox did outside, as long as he sent her money on time each month, it didn’t matter to her whether he came home or not. She just spent her days playing cards and chatting with her friends.
So, by the time they grew older, the two barely had any contact. Lennox enjoyed himself abroad, and Brisa enjoyed her own peace at home. They stayed in their own lanes.
That was why Brisa didn’t attend the family banquet. Instead, she was in her courtyard making pastries.
When she saw Anathea, her eyes lit up in surprise. “Nat, what brings you here?”
Anathea smiled. “I missed you.”
“That’s more like it. If you miss me, you should come visit right away! Look, I just made some pastries. They’re straight out of the oven. Come, have a taste!” Brisa pulled Anathea and Gregory over to the table.
Gregory picked up a piece. It was still hot.

He blew on it and handed it to Anathea. “Careful, it’s hot.”
He looked at her cautiously.
Anathea reached out and took it. Only then did Gregory finally show a small smile.
“Wow, you know how to take care of your wife now, you little rascal. I’m surprised.” Brisa was delighted.
While Anathea tasted the pastry, she added, “I’ve prepared some baby clothes. Do you want to take a look together?”
Anathea paused, a bit surprised.

“Even though I’m in the back courtyard, I still hear bits and pieces about what’s going on out front,” Brisa said with a smile, her gaze landing on Anathea’s belly.
“Having a child is a good thing. There’s no need to feel burdened about it.”
