Why the Crocodile Tears (by Flower Sock) novel Chapter 378

Eleanor! Are you okay?

Natalie rushed in, trying to shove the bodyguard aside, but he was far too big for her to make him budge even an inch.

Greg, how could you do this to Eleanor?

Natalie forced herself to stay calm as she walked up to Gregory. Soly, she said, There are so many people watching outside. What will everyone think of you if you do this? At least consider your reputation in the company.

Gregory didn’t even blink. Only people with a guilty conscience care about what others think.

Natalie was rendered speechless by his cold response. A flicker of unease flashed in her eyes, but she quickly pushed it down. As far as she knew, she hadn’t slipped up in front of him. She kept her expression pleasant.

Still, people will talk whether you care or not. And Mr. Price is visiting today. He’s on his way up right now. It won’t look good if he sees this.

Gregory frowned slightly at that.

But don’t worry. I already had an assistant take him to the lounge. He won’t be here for a while,Natalie added quickly, looking thoughtful.

She knew Gregory hated being threatened, so she’d handled everything in advance, made a show of sincerity, and handed the reins back to him. That was the only way to win him over.

But even after all that, Gregory’s expression barely changed.

Natalie exhaled slowly, softening her tone even more. Her voice was tinged with a hint of pleading as she said, Greg, I know Eleanor did something that upset you. But still, she’s your mother. If you really want her gone, can’t you at least let her leave with a shred of dignity?

She knew there was no way to get Gregory to stop his revenge against Eleanor now.

But at the very least, she needed to keep this mess under wraps. If word of this got out to those wealthy ladies working with Eleanor and they all came after her at once, there would be no room left to salvage the situation.

Noticing Gregory’s silence, Natalie carefully added, Greg, please. Can you do it for me? For the sake of that time I saved you.

As she spoke, she reached out her hand and slowly removed the watch on her wrist, revealing a faint scar underneath.

It was from the day Gregory had nearly drowned. Natalie had clung to him with everything she had, wedged on top of a jagged rock, refusing to let go.

She’d pulled him out of the water, but the stone had cut her wrist badly. The wound had healed, but the scar remained.

With today’s technology, removing a scar was no big deal. But Natalie refused to do it. She wanted Gregory to remember, each time he saw it, that she’d risked everything to save him.

She wanted him to never forget what she’d done for him. Only then would there be a place for her in his heart.

Still, she didn’t bring it up often. She didn’t want him to see her as someone who used gratitude as leverage. That was the only way to preserve its worth.

Gregory’s eyes lingered on the scar. The memory from that day surged back.

He was swallowed by the icy lake. The cold seeped deep into his bones as darkness closed in. All sounds faded into silence. Then, suddenly, a clear voice cut through the void. Hold on to me!

That voice was like a beam of light slicing through endless darkness, shattering the heavy silence that trapped him.

His vision blurred by splashing water, but he clearly felt the hand gripping his own tightly, pulling him ashore with all its might.
