Chapter 148 Backed by William
Upon arriving at Mona’s company, Emelie saw Mona with Hugo in front of the building.
Mona was grabbing Hugo’s hand while crying, and Hugo looked annoyed and frustrated. He swung her hand away.
Meanwhile, Mona’s colleagues were watching and snapping pictures. Some were doing it from the windows, and some were surrounding the couple.
Mona fell to the ground, and Hugo left in his car. She cried her eyes out.
She had always been confident and cheerful. Now, she had become a joke in the company.
Emelie got out of the car without hesitation. She took off her coat and covered Mona’s head with it.
Samuel parked the car next to them, and Emelie helped Mona get into the vehicle.
Mona leaned into Emelie’s embrace and sobbed, “Hugo… Hugo broke up with me! When he picked me up at Westward Club that night and saw the state I was in, he kept asking what happened to me.
“I didn’t dare to tell him the truth, so I said I got too drunk and ran into some thugs on the street. Then, I told him that nothing happened to me because you were there as well.
“He received those pictures today. He came after I asked him to pick me up. However, he started calling me a bitch right after he arrived…”
“What’s there to cry about when you break up with a man who calls you a bitch? You should be happy to leave a bastard like him,” Emelie said in an attempt to comfort her.
The car stopped at a red light. Emelie grabbed some napkins to wipe Mona’s tears.
Suddenly, Mona saw Daphne on the street. “She definitely did this!” she said angrily.
Then, she opened the door and rushed out.
Emelie couldn’t react in time. She knew there would be trouble.
There were many people and surveillance cameras on the street. If Mona were recorded beating Daphne up in public, it would be used as evidence against her.
Emelie quickly got out of the car. She didn’t check both sides of the road, and a car suddenly came toward her.
William was in the back of the car when Abel slammed on the brakes. His body jolted forward due to the momentum.
Fortunately, he grabbed the front seat and didn’t injure himself.
He frowned, and Abel’s face went pale in shock. “Mr. Middleton, it wasn’t my fault… Someone suddenly rushed out. I-”
Samuel hurriedly came out of his car. Just as the other car was about to hit Emelie, he grabbed her hand and pulled her into his embrace.
That was why when William looked up, he saw a man and a woman hugging in front of his car like they were in a movie.
At that moment, he thought Abel should’ve just run them over.
William looked icy, and Abel couldn’t tell if the man was upset because he almost hit a pedestrian or for some other reason.
“Do I have to teach you how to horn?” William asked sarcastically.
Abel gulped and honked the horn.
The noise made Emelie return to her senses. She looked at Samuel and thanked him.
Then, she remembered Mona and ran to her without a care in the world.
William followed her with his gaze as she rushed across the road.
“M–Mr Middleton, you still have an appointment…” Abel hesitantly said.
Seeing Samuel running after Emelie, William looked away and loosened his tie. He ignored the rage boiling inside him.
“Go,” he said coldly.
The car drove off, and William didn’t notice Daphne was there, where Emelie was headed.
Mona raised her hand and was about to slap Daphne. However, Emelie grabbed her hand in time.
“Mona!” she exclaimed.
Mona wanted to pounce on Daphne like a mad woman. “It has to be you! You bitch! I’m going to kill you!”
There was already a crowd watching. Emelie pushed Mona toward Samuel and quickly said, “Mr. Swanson, please bring my friend back to the car.”
Samuel realized the seriousness of the situation, and he quickly dragged Mona away.
