Winning Her Heart Back (Emelie and William) novel Chapter 895

The lipstick was a soft, muted matte rose with a hint of gray, perfectly matching her outfit.

Emelie pursed her lips and said, "You really think of everything."

William put the lipstick in his own pocket and pulled her close, holding her slender back against him. He whispered, "I'm sorry."

Emelie tilted her chin slightly, resting it on his shoulder. "What are you apologizing for this time?"

William's voice was low and muffled. "Back then, I shouldn't have hung up on you."

If he hadn't, maybe their first child could have been saved.

Bringing up the past made Emelie feel heavy-hearted. Some things in life didn't fade away with time.

William sensed her mood and ran his hand down her back, gently easing her tension.

Emelie asked, "So why did you hang up on me?"

William replied, "I don't remember why I did it at the time. Three years ago, I thought about it and went to the phone company to retrieve the call records. I found the exact time I hung up and checked my schedule for that day.

I was at dinner. The people I was with had brought along a newlywed wife, and they were going on and on about their relationship, from school uniforms to wedding gowns…"

"You know how it is, I don't have many fond memories of high school. It reminded me of Wesley, and I wasn't feeling great. Then you called, and I took it out on you by hanging up."

He added, "I'm sorry."

Emelie wasn't entirely satisfied with that explanation, but she had chosen to start over with William and digging into the past would only burden them both.

She stepped out of his embrace and said, "Let's not bring that up again."

William looked at her and nodded. "Okay."
