William felt a sharp pain in his lungs again, almost making him cough. However, he didn't allow himself to.
If he started coughing, his face would pale, and Emelie would worry. Since it was their wedding day, he didn't want to ruin it no matter what. He skillfully adjusted his breathing to suppress the urge.
However, after all that suspense, Lyle casually added, "But in the end, the test confirmed that she wasn't pregnant, so they didn't need to swap the samples. They just gave you the real result."
William was speechless.
Lyle, oblivious to the flicker of anger in his eyes, continued, "But at the time, she thought that the test result was fake and believed she was pregnant."
William pressed a hand to his chest, resisting the urge to scold Lyle for intentionally scaring him. Why break such important news like it was some suspenseful story?
However, as the words formed in his mouth, he realized that it was just a false alarm. It was better to scare him than have Emelie experience a second miscarriage.
He was relieved. "It's good that she wasn't pregnant."
"Just a small misunderstanding," Lyle said nonchalantly. "You've had plenty of misunderstandings between you two. What's one more?"
That was true.
William looked at the empty glass in his hand, its clear surface reflecting his eyes. "There won't be any more misunderstandings from now on."
From down the hallway, the sound of a diamond pendant clinking reached them. He looked up to see Emelie gracefully making her way toward him, holding up her dress.
Lyle waved at Emelie in greeting and then headed back to the banquet hall.
As she approached William, Emelie asked curiously, "What did Lyle say to you?"
William took her hand, his thumb brushing over her ring.
Without hiding anything, he said, "He mentioned that they all thought you were pregnant back then."
Emelie froze for a moment, then she replied calmly, "After my first miscarriage, my body became much weaker. I had a check-up, especially on my uterus, and the doctor said it would be difficult for me to conceive."
William felt a pang in his heart. He exhaled slowly, glancing around.
When he saw that no one else was in the hallway, he gently pushed her back a few steps. He pinned her against the wall and lowered his head to kiss her.
